I just liked the idea of grabbing it for all my weekly mtb rides and my monthly or twice monthly wheeling if I’m lucky. I just wanted the peace of mind to have it all the time ready to go so I chose the 12 mo plan. No biggie

G'mornin Lair. Quick question/ poll for you all... What gear oil do you guys use? I'm going to change my drive line fluids soon and have so far gotten +1 for 75-90 synthetic and +1 for 85-140 conventional. I've been told that ECGS recommends 85-140 conventional for their Nitro gears, but my gears are stock so i'm leaning toward the 75-90

 

I use this. It’s good stuff. Lots of stuff is the same as this. Some stuff isn’t as good. Some stuff is probably somehow better. Just buy the correct recommended oil and be done with it

I use the 85-140 and have stock gears. Did you read the pdf of why they recommend that oil?

Tl;dr: conventional is cheap and doesn’t thin out as it gets hot so it provides better protection. Has a shorter life span but since it’s cheap just change it a little more frequently. That’s what I gathered anyways.

It all kinda sounds like a large scam from the major companies though. But I guess that’s what technology does to us. Provides a better product that sometimes requires more maintenance even though it’s a superior product? Why not just maintain the average product and “get the job done”. This topic can be beat to death. But don’t “beat a dead horse” because that’s offensive.

 

Do you put the 85-140 in your T case too?. I read somewhere about a pump/ fine screen in the T-case and a concern that it might not lubricate properly with the thicker oil especially in the winter.
