Yea kind of high. I need to find out if the hood is gel or clear coated. If gel it’s a no go for me.

Looks good imo. Probably wouldn't put it on without hood pins to be safe. These hoods are light AF ;-)

Yeah. Under the special note from Seibon, they said "Hood pins required." From what I see in the pic, there's no cut out for the hood pin. Do we have to do that ourselves? I'm new to this. hehe.

Yea you would have to cut it yourself. Shouldn’t be hard. My biggest concern is if it’s clear coated or just a gel coat. Gel turns yellow, cracks and fades over time from the UV. If I have to spend $1400 and then have a body shop clear coat it that’s a deal breaker for me.

A proper 100% carbon hood is going to run like 6k. We have a lot of carbon bits built for race boats, it’s not a cheep way to save weight. We just had carbon pipe bunks made $$$$.

CF weave (the fabric itself is expensive... you'll be hard pressed to find any manufacturer that makes an entirely CF hood. they'll typically make it in 2 parts.. 1 being the visible top surface made in a form/mold from an original hood, it is highly polished, and waxed with a release agent/wax. A gelcoat (typically clear for CF, or a colored gelcoat) is applied, any edges are formed with a moldable wax to create a smooth transition for the outer edge. typically the weave of CF is so thick/dense, that only 1 layer of CF is required, and any subsequent layers of re-inforcement are done in glass fiber (same weight savings, but much cheaper). they go with combinations of chop mat, and different types of weave (hoods can see anywhere from 4-6 layers for the top surface. then they will also use a mold of the under structure of the hood to replicate one out of CF depending on any scoops. vents or alterations to the top surface they will modify, or change the mold to suit it. same process, gell coat, and 3-4 layers of chop mat, or wave.. the excess is trimmed after the resin is introduced through an arrangement of tubes, breather mesh, and a release paper (kind of like waxed paper) , and using a vacuum bag.

point is its a complicated process with an expensive material, that I would assume they try to keep costs down.. also it's not a structural piece (its not a frame, or structural cockpit, like in a Mclaren, or ferrari).. and with the resins they use, they set clear, and you will not be able to see the clear fibers. you will only see the dark mesh.. vacuum mold process with resin is amazing to watch.. I highly recommend Youtube to learn about it.

If I don't have to put a hood pin on it, I might be interested. Cause trying to get a hood swap is almost utopian. Try to get an OEM one and have it paint match "silversky metallic" is really hard and expensive.
My other option is the OEM hood and wrap it.

I was hoping this hood would be around $700. Buying an OEM one and wrapping it would be right around that amount if not a little less.

CF hoods are probably “off-road use” only. And give cancer to Californians.
