Just finished watching "Long Way Round" with Ewan McGregor...driving motorcycles 20,000 miles from London (through MT!) to NYC....
They may not have been driving Toyotas but I'd watch that show over any @xoverland episode any day.
They were also traveling through AK and Canada in 2004 about a month before me along many of the same roads. I would have been there at the same time as them but had the good sense to delay my trip when I heard about the wildfires and road closures.
I'd highly recommend watching the series if you haven't already seen it. All about venturing into unfamiliar territory in unconventional ways.

Only thing about XO I'm really jealous of is the fact that they apparently have more money than me.

    Ditto.
If it makes you feel any better, the last sighting I had of the XO Taco and Runner were at Ressler waiting for service...maybe their TPMS lights came on or something. :notsure:
I was in for the air bag recall FYI.

and too much drama. and who the hell travels 2000 miles from home without knowing how to change a freaking tire?!?!?!
and I wasn't impressed with some of the poor decisions they made early on. like taking totally inexperienced drivers out on the trails. dumb.

also, met the guys in person a long time ago. not impressed.

Lol. It’s like they were in the film industry before they ever saw a tent in the wild. Then saw an opportunity to make films about a lifestyle. I get irritated with how much they praise certain products when it reality the stuff is no good.

There videos are literally just a 20min commercials.

Too bad really. First ever video they made was great.

Then money became involved. And the fake drama started..

    not great but intriguing...
but GD... except for that one stretch on the rocks I made it on the same trail in a SR5 with AT tires, no lift and no armor!

The first trail they did was just independence pass. Not hard at all. Had a friend that almost took a Subaru the whole way.

This. Exactly. It's a giant advertisement. Really disappointed. Their first two seasons were kind of fun. After that I lost interest.

The fact that they're given so much shit by sponsors turns me off a lot.

The General tires... free for them... but I don't know anyone in the 4x4 world recommending them. LoL

I wonder I'd all the "tricky" scenarios in their episodes are staged.

They are good videographers. And they narrate well. But their little educational videos don't really teach anything. They just show off sponsors.

Yeah what a way to kick off the season. Thought about skiing some more and than I thought better of it.

On an unrelated note, if anyone local to MT is interested in a 3rd gen chrome grille surround or some black overlays for the chrome badges (4x4, Limited, SR5) I have them somewhere and won't be using them.

I have to give a HUGE shout out to Stephen, Ross, and Darren from 406Cruisers tonight. These guys went above and beyond to help me out of a real bind today.

I decided to take my kids up Little Bear today for a drive and picnic. On our way down the mountain I heard a clunk and suddenly the truck was pulling left. I found the clearest spot I could and stopped.

    This is what I found:

    20190623_123807-01-jpeg_47ea73566b6b7fdcbfaccd7f6942cd7b3f58ac86.jpg

    20190623_123813-01-jpeg_8a56199890b72056553346d330fec34a440f49e4.jpg

The nut and washer meant to hold the through bolt of my Upper Control Arm was gone. The bolt pulled out of one side of the UCA entirely and could just barely be seen sticking out of the strut tower.

My truck had suspension repairs (including new UCAs) in November. I can only assume the nut was nut torqued properly.

    20190623_130746-jpg_659db678ebfc5265a63f76c8075f316d35a66202.jpg

You can see the front passenger tire had serious camber issues. I couldn't drive. I had no cell service, apart from occasional 1x signals. I could text but could not call.

I managed to get one HAM radio and got some fellow HAM users to call Darren for me. Thank you Darren for rounding up help! Stephen and Ross came up with Darren to my rescue. Stephen even managed to buy the right size nut to bolt me back together. I got lucky and the through bolt appears to be straight still as Ross got it pushed back onto place pretty easily.

Other HAM users were able to coordinate Ross by radio using his APRS system (which he JUST installed yesterday) to find me on the mountain.

I'm so thankful this didn't happen on the highway or at higher speeds. I don't know if or how myself and my three children would have survived had the UCA come off at speed.

    Lessons for the day:

1). Torque everything properly. Even if it's not your vehicle.
    2). HAM radio. Get one.
3). If you know something sounds wrong or feels wrong with your rig... something probably is wrong. Don't ignore it.
4). Know where you are. Be able to obtain GPS coordinates for rescuers.
5). Take food into the mountains. My kids were hungry and bored.

All told, trouble began around 11:45am or 12:00pm. I got back onto pavement at about 7:25pm.

Thank you Stephen, Ross, and Darren!
