I'm at about half the tread use of my second set of tires on this 2016 TRD Sport. Factory Toyo A30 were done in about 40,000 miles, so I replaced with a set of Cooper Discover AT3.

The Coopers have been great. I'm not sure if it due to being newly redesigned as the AT3 4S, but the price of these is about $25 per tire more than I spent on the current set.

With this in mind, I am not sure I want to spend that much more for the tires, so I'm researching options and experiences.

Has anybody who had the AT3 replaced them with the AT3 4S? Are they worth the extra money?

(At the moment) for the same price as I paid for the AT3 I can get Nitto Dura Grapplers, which I have read good things about. Any experiences with these?

Preferring to use brands made in the US or North America (I understand Nitto is in California, and the Discoverer in this size [265/65-17] made in Canada), I am certainly open to suggestions for a mostly highway use AT-style tire. I say AT-style because I like the look and figure that if I stay in the ~$150 range a street tire or an AT tire will ride, handle, perform, feel, last about the same overall.

TL;DR: Are the Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S a good enough replacement for the AT3 to warrant the higher cost than the outgoing AT3? Are Nitto Dura Grapplers a good replacement? Any other suggestions?

My vote is for falken at3w. I’ve got over 50,000 miles on them now and it was under $550 for tires and install.

My Falkens looked nice and rode smooth since they were the light load range but after only 12000km on my 2018 i was down to 8/32nds on rears and 9/32nds on the fronts with 99.9% pavement use. I dunno if mine were a bad batch but i cant recommend them

Got rid of my Falkens after 30K and went with these. Best decision I ever made for tires.

I have the stt pro currently, but loved the cooper at3s while they on. I’m not sure if they were 4s, but I’m considering trading in my bro credentials and putting the at3 back on.

Had them on my FJ. They lasted forever, but were noisy after about 5-10k miles and needed rotation regularly. But that was on an FJ that is probably harder on tires than a Tacoma.

For those recommending the Falken AT3W, these are the same price as the Cooper AT3 4S, but weigh about 10% more (43 vs 39; I'm assuming the 29# weight I have seen for the AT3 4S is incorrect), so would have negative impact on fuel economy without much benefit (maybe less value based on mileage warranty). My other question on is whether the $170 price tag is worth the value vs. the $145 price tag paid for the Cooper AT3.

For those recommending $200+ tires compared to the ~$150 tire (current AT3 or Nitto Dura Grappler) or even the $170 tire (new AT3 4S), are the tires worth the 30% higher price tag?

One recommendation from the quiet tire thread above was for the Goodyear Wrangler Trailrunner. At similar cost to the Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S, does anybody have experience with one over the other?

    4lbs don’t make a difference, 20 lbs does.

You can get the falkens for $142 today or wait for the next sale and get them even cheaper
