I am curious where you guys mounted your PA speaker? I ordered an 8" speaker and it seems too big now that I have it in hand. The only place it would fit nicely is behind the battery...but I am concerned with it getting muffled by the hood. Should I buy a smaller speaker so I can fit it in my grill?

Sorry for the derail, but what are those used for nowadays?

not sure how big mine is but mine is mounted on the bumper support forward and down from the battery. The bar that supports the aluminum cross bar/bumper. I used two stainless steel generic straight support brackets, and two long ass bolts and sandwiched the support while bolting the speaker to the top bracket. Probably not the best way to do it but hasn't budged in like 5 years.

Anyone have thoughts on speaker size and location? I've searched all I can search.

I'd say behind the bumper. Use the crash bar as a mounting point.

Yeah that seems like a good spot...I think I will need to return this 8" and buy a 5" to make that happen.

Maybe mounted to the side of the crash bar. Like behind the fog light. Going with a smaller speaker would make placement easier. But it could probably be done with an 8".

if youre wiring it into the CB, you'll also need an amp to power the speaker, depending on how many watts the speaker is. I got a generic marine one and shoved it under my seat.
    Helpful hint too...
If you have friends that like to act like jackasses every once in a while and yell through the dang thing, install a little switch somewhere where you can covertly turn the speaker off. Don't want to be arrested for "impersonating a peace officer" if your caught using it on public roads! I have a little push button by my coin tray. that cuts the remote positive lead to the amp.

Explain this amp thing, when speaking to the seller, they specifically said that it will work by simply plugging the speaker into the CB. Were lies told??

Probably depends on the speaker. Mine was just a straight 100W speaker. That means it can handle the 100W, not that it is independently powered and has a built in Amp.
This is pretty much what I have...
    Speaker: https://www.galls.com/federal-signal-100w-economy-speaker?PMWTNO=000000000002260&PMSRCH=

And then I have the speaker wired to an amp like this one: https://www.amazon.com/2-1-Bluetoot...Q6G8DHNESGNZ603T07MY&qid=1561001645&s=gateway

So the output comes out of the CB, to the amp, and then the amp powers and sends the signal to speaker.

Because you are using one speaker with one output, you dont need to worry about right/left signals. Often, CB radios only use one channel out put anyway.. so keep this in mind when you are playing with the outputs. If you dont hear anything if you plug the speaker into the "right" output, switch it over to "left" and see if that works.

So cut the 3.5mm plug on the speaker and split the cable, plugging one of each into the amp correct?

Ahhh then your speaker may have an Amp built in! you have a link? the speaker I have is just two wires; positive and negative. but if it has a 3.5mm built in it may already have the amp plugged in
