Manual says 10k if I recall. I was thinking 3k to be on the safe side. I remember when you did it at 500 lol.

Maybe with modern engines and oils you don’t have issues.

Is it filled with synthetic at the factory??

    Thoughts?

Well I have built several motors and all new motors will have trace amounts of metal in the oil from the wear in process. The oil filter should catch the majority of this. However, I always change the oil after the first couple thousand miles just to be on the safe side. In reality it probably is not needed but I don't want to take a chance of a shortened lifespan of the motor in my new $38,000 vehicle.

Whatever the manual says. The people who wrote it probably know a thing or two about your truck.

Manual says 10k, so this is what Toyota recommends. However, I did mine at 5k. Maybe a waste of money (toyota care - so it was "free"), but made me feel better.

10k and dealership should take care of it. When I bought my 2016, dealership covered first 3 oil changes (may be different with your dealership though).

Yes, I used the Toyota Care intended for 10k at 5k. The I am sure the 10k was my 15k and had to pay out of packet at the 20k. Now does Toyota pay for it, no I am sure we consumers pay for it in the price of our truck, hence the quotations. I work my truck and plan to keep it along time, so oil changes are cheap for long term care in my opinion.

I do mine at 5K when the light comes on with Synthetic. Rotate my tires when I'm done.

I think I’m gonna have my buddy’s shop do it at 5k then ToyotaCare At 10k and 20k. I’m OCD about maintenance.

That is all the 5k service is - a tire rotation and top off fluids.. If someone requested an oil change I am curious how they got it changed at no charge.. I did mine at 5k myself, and am about to do the 10k as part of Toyota Care.. Although after them overtightening my wife's 4Runner filter housing, I am thinking about just skipping it all and doing them myself.

Just had my truck in for its 1st 5k “Free Toyota Care” Service. My oil change was not free. The dealer said it was only needed at 10k, and I said do it anyway. Had to pay for that part of it. They rotated the tires and inspected the floor mat as part of the service o_O

The more I think about the crappy experiences I’ve had at the stealership service department, the more inclined I am to skip the ToyotaCare thing and pay $65 to a trusted shop for synthetic and rotation.

You get two free ones. I had my dealership bang out the 1st one at 5k and the 2nd one at 10k. I have a cool dealership though. Do what the manual says, CYA. Do em a little early, take care of your OCD/paranoia. Either one is fine.

Put it in your neighbors truck bed with a sticky note that says “no tag backs”. It magically becomes his problem.
