Is it wrong to compare a '19 Taco vs. '19 Wrangler?

When you had your JK, before all the trade wars... Try now. Yes I went on Quadratec and looked. Real sliders that mount to the frame for the JL are about $700 shipped, for example. A set of Metalcloak skids, $1200.

Yea we weren’t making the 9 hour drive each way 75 mph across Kansas in July with a soft top. We are mid 30 year olds, not crazy young 20 somethings! We have grown soft with our age.

Yes, totally agree. I would also say that my wife’s ‘16 T4R feels much higher quality than my ‘18 Tacoma. Everything from interior materials, sound level, to ride quality. I love road tripping in the T4R. Not quite as fun in the Taco

I went from a Jeep to the Taco. Felt like the right decision at first. But, every day I hate my decision. I hate this fucking truck more each day. Honestly hope it gets totaled. The trans and the motor are the worst I have ever driven. The huge delay in throttle response is super unsafe, like a 1-2 second delay, then bang. The trans shifts so hard that it slams into gear and it shifts constantly while cruising. Even my girl who could care less about vehicles, says she hates riding in it cause of the jerky weirdness. Its like riding with someone who cant drive stick. Ive had more issues with the Taco than my last 3 JKs. The JL is way nicer, just isnt a truck and gladiators are retadedly priced. Im shopping daily for another Jeep but have only had the taco maybe 10 months. That jeep in the video probs had a body lift using the stock tub bolts. Id still take half a Jeep over the whole Taco. I also miss being able to wheel, which on the east coast the Taco is not capable of doing the trails around here. I have 8k miles on it in almost a year. I try not to drive it if I don't have to, its that bad.

That brings back lots of memories...driving in open-topped jeeps with my friends, drinking frappacino's, getting in gasoline fights and watching friends die...sigh...good times.

Get a manual: better gear selection and better gearing. The Tacoma's 3.5l v6 isn't a torque monster, but then again neither is the Jeep's v6.

Jeep is a great offroad 4x4, but FCA's build quality and overall reliability is still very iffy. The Jeep seems to be built as a weekend toy rather than as a longterm vehicle. The whole removable top is great in concept, but in reality driving with a semi-fixed roof with lots of leaks and rattles during the dead of winter isn't my idea of fun or practical.

Your experience is similar to mine, minus the part of wanting my Taco totaled. I’m nowhere near that point. Granted, my truck has only 1,500 miles at the moment.

Yes the automatic transmission sucks. Yes, it even borders on unsafe. Yes my Tacoma shakes and vibrates. Yes, I miss Jeeps, yes I miss wheeling. But I am giving my Tacoma every chance. The memories of my poorly assembled, rattly $52,000 Wrangler with 5,000 miles, and the worst Jeep dealer this side of the Rockies are still too fresh on my mind.

Stupid Jeep. Friend of mine sent me this pic so I'm sure it's legit.

Look how cramped the cabin is.......

Metalcloak is overpriced. The best stuff to get is Ace Engineering. They offer the package I mentioned above every Black Friday for around 1900. Sliders are 530 for 4 door and 450 for 2 door which is non sale price. Way cheaper then 600-1000 dollar Tacoma sliders. Not to mention with Tacoma it’s an extra 100-150 to powder coat. These are powder coated already. So what’s that?? You try again.

And get free shipping on all jeep parts, granted way bigger aftermarket but the parts are essentially the same.

Except Ace doesn't make skids for the JL ;) https://aceengineeringandfab.com/collections/jl-products/armor

And their sliders aren't well-engineered - they bolt to the cab mounts using cab mount bolts, which makes them slightly better than steprails. Try to jack up the vehicle on the sliders and they'll tear the cab off the frame. https://aceengineeringandfab.com/products/jl-rock-sliders-4-door?variant=20250156105828

The fact you think that’s a Jeep in the video makes me question everything you’ve said...

Gotta have that winch to extract your broken down Jeep from the drive thru line at Starbucks.

Why are you still driving it? Go trade it in. Life is too short. Good luck with the JL's.

Did I say they did??? I actually did jack up my Jeep with no issues. Maybe you should try both vehicles before you talk crap about nothing you know.

Been considering a base model JL Sport 2 door softtop manual for a while now. I appreciate the fact that it is different from my TRDOR manual. Oh, I am not selling or trading in the Toyota. The JL would be in addition to it. I enjoy the base JL since it has roll up windows, and not a lot of tech. I am not into all the gadgets and stuff that will go out in 5 or 6 years. I am curious about the mileage and its basic off road capability. I enjoy doing minor trails (no rock climbing at all). My TRDOR manual is averaging 21 miles per tank.

Base JL, manual everything seems to make a lot of sense. But how about a UTV or ATV for a fraction of the price? So fun, even driving dirt roads.

    Yes you did:
That was in response to my post about Metalcloak JL skids being $1200 a set, while Ace Engineering doesn't even make skids for the JL. Maybe base your arguments on facts rather than memory from years ago? :)

Still would like to be street legal. Having a JL Sport 2 door would also be an option to drive to work anytime.

Manual trans is what links a lot of buyers to Jeep/Tacoma/Subaru.

AWD/4WD, practical and strong resale factor too. I think a lot of buyers bounce between the 3, I know I do. I love jeeps but I hate the jk (with the exception of the 10a rubicon). I hate that every suburban housewife drives one now, I hate that the Wall Street commuter parking lots on 95 are filled with them and I hate the price. I love the TJ but finding a clean one without a Swiss cheese frame in the northeast is getting tougher. The best thing I like about it (aside from the top/door) is just how maneuverable it is. You can put it almost anywhere. I am always looking/buying/selling jeeps. They are fun and once you get a feel for the market it’s hard to lose on one. I am currently without one but would buy another tmmrw if a deal came up.
