Just installed a TRD exhaust on my 2019 and hear no difference in the sound at all... is this normal? Does it need to be driven a bit and “broken in” Also there we no gaskets to install between the connection (wasn’t one on the factory exhaust either) should I have put one on?

I still hear a lower burble at idle and more aggressive snarling from 3500rpms to redline.

I don’t hear anything as of now granted I just installed it and just started it and revved the engine a bit. I have to drive it around a bit I guess but I’ve done exhaust on my car before and heard a difference immediately

When driving, the exhaust will sound much better.

First off, you should probably have installed the gasket. At idle there's not much difference unless it's cold. I hear it at higher RPM, in tunnels, under bridges, etc. But not at cruising, and that's how I like it. It definitely got louder as it broke in.

I personally think a modified Gen 2 TRD exhaust sounds better and hell of a lot less expensive.

There is no gasket on the factory exhaust to install. Just two bolts and a couple of hanger points. That's it.

The factory exhaust gasket popped out of mine. I picked up a new gasket from Toyota and installed it on the TRD exhaust. Whether you reuse the factory one is up to you.

There was no gasket on my factory exhaust I purposely checked which is why I didn’t go buy one and install it on this one

its pretty tame at startup as others have said, get it warmed up and hop on the highway or a 2 lane backroad where you can start at around 30-40mph and drive it like a 16 yr does for a few seconds and you should be able to tell the difference...mine took a couple hundred miles to get broke in real good and it sounds perfect for my ears

Probably what some others have said: You will hear the difference when you actually drive it. The engine creates a different sound while under stress, which sounds better to most people. (Whether they realize it or not)

You have to drive it. With no torque it does not change the work being done at higher rpms. Go drive it in S mode with the windows shut.

Does it leak at the CAT to pipe joint? If not don’t worry too much. You are using OEM parts. With aftermarket you may need a gasket to account for Chinese manufacturing principles. The OEM flange May have been designed to be malleable when torqued.

This is the best way to keep any motor healthy! I remember growing up I was always told, "redline that thing at least once every tank of gas"

Totally agree, the heat produced from high rpm will knock carbon build up loose and send them out of the exhaust. I redline almost daily but that's cause I have a manual and this engine is gutless in the lower rpm below 3500rpm. On my local trail, Im in first gear for most of the time and will use the entire rev range all the way to the limiter.
