I know no one cares about the awards but just a few thoughts. I think they were all pretty good. I was happy about Trotz, I think he deserved it, although that was a tough choice. Happy O'Reilly got the Selke. Pederson was good for Calder. Obviously Binnington had the better overall season (with playoffs) but after just the regular season, I would've said Pederson, for sure. I feel like Bishop should've gotten the Vezina though. Nothing against Vasi but he had 1 of the best teams in front of him and had way less high-danger shots to deal with than Bishop. But I knew Bishop wouldn't win because the Vezina always seems to be more like a popularity contest, similar to the Norris. It really isn't about the best at their position. But it is what it is. Everything was pretty good.

My argument against him is that the Blues are/were a good team to begin with. So yes he deserves a lot of credit for that, but the team was there. And Binnington back-stopped them and that was the 1 element they have lacked for the past few years. Granted, Berube gets credit for giving Binnington a chance in the first place also, to some degree. So ya, a case can be made for him. But for me, Trotz coming into a team that lost their best player, let in a crazy amount of goals last year etc. He tightened them up, installed a system that could be executed with the type of talent that they had and made the playoffs in a hard division. Super impressive.

Yes, I believe in mid-Jan they were last in the league. Don't get me wrong, super impressive. But that was also a good team under-achieving. Similar to the Pens in 16 with Sullivan.

It’s sad that there is more excitement online and in the media around whose going to sign an offer sheet in a couple of weeks than there was for the draft today.

You have to wonder with the price for Subban that low if he has some underlying issues that lead to his slump. I know Nashville needs cap relief but they just gave away a guy who had a few Norris candidate years not so long ago and whose still young. No first rounder and no impact roster player for nine million in cap relief for a guy who will likely play at a nine million dollar level this year.

He would look much better in Kings colors and a greater shot at the cup, as well.

    Indeed.

Kings did great this draft. Too bad it takes a few years to get these guys into the NHL level.

NJ got a lot better. If their goaltending is up to standard this year, they should be able to make some progress, after taking a step back this past year.

LA will be back in playoffs this year, one off year not too bad. Better than making the playoffs and going nowhere and pulling a Tampa Bay or San Jose LMAO

I find it interesting that they kind of pushed themselves into win now mode. Not that they gave away the farm but their core players, apart from their shiny new number 1 pick, aren't that young.

Ya it is weird. Only thing that I can think of is with the talk of Hall not sure about resigning, they wanted to show him that they are in the hunt now and in the future. So maybe this was Shero's way of bringing in another guy in his prime and thinking with a good mix of veterans and a couple top picks, they have a core to start winning now. Only thing I can think of. If Hall decides not to sign, then that could spell trouble.

Hall's will to sign will probably have a lot to do with his own performance this year. If he can bounce back to Hart candidate levels he will want Hart candidate money which might not be what NJ wants to pay him.

So it was leaked today that Marner refused an 80 million dollar offer from the Leafs (8 years at 10 million per.) Not only is that overpaying but apparently he wants a five year deal like Matthews so he can make even more at 26 lol. What a joke, honestly send him packing if that’s the price and it’s not good enough. Someone will give us a very good defensemen and a 20 goal scorer for that chunk of payroll and the Leafs would be better off. I’ve had enough of the home town kid story. He’s done nothing but rack up assists with some extremely good players playing beside him and has a lot of work to complete his game. I mean he’s good but he constantly goes missing in tough games and gets carried by his team mates quite often. He isn’t a 10 million dollar player and a short term deal isn’t a good idea. If 80 million and playing at home isn’t enough, let him play for some team like Florida where no one will give a shit about his talents because he isn’t a top 5 player in this league no matter what his daddy says.

They've been saying he wanted 11-11.5mil. So I'm not shocked. But I agree, he is not as good/important as AM or JT. It will be interesting.
