    FYI.
In a inspection, any mig weld with the mig like Tig look will fail.

Not say it is in anyway a weak weld .
    Just reality.

Another Aerospace welder here (18 years with the same company). Oregon has quiet a bit of aerospace. You can definitely make a good living and it’s clean work.

Central Oregon as well. Not to hijack the thread, but electricians are in high demand across the country too. I hold a license, but am a glorified inspector for a large data center in the area (a book of faces) and clear $150k/year easy. Union electricians are making $40-$50/hour in many parts of the country. Just saying...

I have a question. I'm going to test for a job tomorrow at a fab shop where they build storm shelters. It's basically gonna be a little thing combining different type of steel, tube, etc and overhead, 2G, flat postitons. They run it hot and fast. I'm think @ 0.045 wire? And like 26v and 400fpm on 10ga-3/16" steel. Anyone ever done this before that could give tips on running this configuration?

I have MIG experience but while I run mine warm, I've never done something like this before. It's almost spray arc.

    Thanks!

Sounds like they are running duo shield. I've had the best luck pulling the bead running that stuff.

Not sure. I havent been in the shop yet. So basically just run it similar to 7018 (ie: drag it)? That's kinda what I was thinking. How about overhead?

Yeah, you won't be doing overhead with that style of welding. The idea is to get as much product out the door as quick as possible. Welding upside down in a production environment would be counter productive.

Ok I was wondering about that. I'm pretty sure he said overhead though....well whateverm ill see tomorrow. Give it my best shot.

Yeah I've done limited overhead with MIG and it sucks. Not as bad if it's on a T style joint, but even so it stinks.

The most fun i've ever had was laying under an RX7 and welding 2x4 steel to the unibody to stiffen the chassi (7 sec 1/4th car). Some how it had water in those areas and would blow open and give me a nice molten lava shower lol

So many variables I am thinking the end game is to see if you can set up and adjust the machine for different type jobs

If you are able to do all that on one setting your better then all the welders I saw this week

    Best of luck

I welded on the back, alternated a lot, and hard tacked it in place before taking it off my truck and putting it on my table - didn't notice any significant deflection - the 1/8th plate that runs the length of the support looked good.

Forgive the major noob question but - what would be a good starter welder for a home, preferably 110v.

Would like to use it for things like cab mount chop plate, welding on rock sliders, etc. Nothing fancy, just need to stick steel to steel.

Same here - or the Miller 140 would also work well.
