Final spec, this tech good or am i missing something?

I have a 2006 TRD quad cab. Looking to give it a nice 3inch lift, good ride (not really 4x4 riding) and nice tires.

So far I have bilstien 5100's, with a spacer, add a leaf system for the back (not installed) . I want to get some 33's on there with some 20's.

My problem is I keep hearing conflicting information on whether I need UCA's and some OME coileover springs for a non jarring ride and good allignment. I don't want to drive around in some uncomfortable junker.

What do you guys think? Am I missing out on anything? Thanks in advance

 

i am not sure about the ride quality. but with a 3" lift you will need a new UCA's to get or alignment right. i thought i could get away without them but no go on that so new LR UCAs where installed and now my alignment is spot on.

Thanks, so what did you set the 5100's to in the front? Is the ride really jarring?

 

One thing I'm confused about too is the lift for the back. If I get coilovers and set the bilstiens to zero, how do you get the back up to a full 3" lift? I know the add a leaf doesn't do that much, right?

 

i did spacers in mine, but for the back all you need is the add a leaf. the front is lower then the back so with the add a leaf and 3" up front it will sit level

 

If you have bilstein 5100's then you don't need (and can't run) a spacer. The both pre-load the springs.

 

so install it and you will be good to go! if you have problems getting it aligned right then get some light racing UCA's... if you ever plan on wheeling I would stay away from the 20's though.

 

Ok, I was told to use the OME 885 coils for the 2 1/2 inch lift and that I needed a spacer to get it up the rest of the 3 inches.

I dont necessarily need 3 inches I just want to put on some 18x9 wheels with 285's without rubbing.

Also on the UCA's im getting a lot of conflicting info. A lot of people seem to think i absolutely need UCA's for alignment.

So here's what I was going to get.

Total Chaos UCA's
Bilstien 5100's front and back set at zero
1/2 spacer for front (already have it, not sure if i need it)
add a leaf for back
pro comp 7089 18x9
BFG AT 285's

 

that setup will only give you 1/2" of lift up front. If you want 3", set the billy's at 2.5", and then use the 1/2" top plate spacer to get to 3".

If you are planning on getting the OME coils, which you mentioned in an earlier post, but not this one, you should get OME shocks, not bilsteins.

Also, the rear 5100's are not adjustable, because we don't have coils in the back.

 

Really, the offroad guys were claiming I'd get 2 and 1/2 with the coils and that I should use them instead of setting the 5100's for better ride quality.

Correct, but it is recommended that you use OME shocks in conjunction with the OME coils. So I'm just saying get the OME shocks instead of the billy's.

 

Thanks, i checked with downsouth motorsports (they seem to be the only one with the 885 coilovers) and he said they work great with bilstien 5100's. He was also said the UCA and coils aren't really necessary for a good ride, its just to get to factory settings of if you do a lot of offroading (which I don't).

You guys think the UCA and coils are a must have?

 

I have just bilstein 5100's up front, stock coils...so no, I don't think the coils are a must have.

As far as the UCA's go, you will just have to see if the shop can get your alignment correct. If they can't, you will need UCA's to correct that.

The UCA will affect on-road performance a lot more than off-road. Not having the alignment right can make the truck feel "floaty" at highway speeds.
