Ah okay. My dad was in commo, mom in MI and I almost reclassed to 35P back in '12, but stayed 11B

Gotcha, that's an interesting mix. 35Ps have got big bonuses right now for reenlisting. I was able to get small one right before I headed to Knox

 

Sadly, i didn't make it to retirement. I really wanted to go to Master Gunner school (I was an E5-P 2017-2018) but was under constant medical care for a back injury for two years which caused DA to drop my promotable status (constant temporary profiles while under medical care because a permanent would initiate med board so I couldn't go to ALC). They ended up med boarding me because they wouldn't operate. Shitty way to end 12 years of service.

 

Yeah that's the shitty part about the the service. You get hurt doing the shit you are supposed to do for your job and then if they can't fix it you're out. I get the whole if you cannot deploy, get out mentality, however, if you want to still deploy but are just trying to get better I don't see why they don't take that into consideration.

I still went overseas with a line company, but they weren't combat tours, just two rotations to South Korea. I did my last combat tour in Afghanistan '11-'12. I miss it, but I also love basically being on vacation. Just talked to my old platoon sergeant a few hours ago, he's NCOIC'ing ranges somewhere. My replacement company master gunner caked me yesterday for regulation clarification on Bradley Gunnery lol. I'm always available for them lol.

Korea is just as bad as the box I hear. At least at Casey is from what most of my buddies who have done a few rotations to Korea tell me. Haha well at least if it all goes to shit you're still ready to go.

EDIT: as bad as in people getting into trouble. not too much action in Korea besides CSMs' getting drunk and showing up naked in a wheelbarrow in front of the BN HQ

 

I was at Camp Casey a total of 18 months. It's pretty close to the box, except you can drink, sort of. You also have a curfew. And you're constantly doing war alert drills.

 

Sounds about right. Apparently its the Soju bombs that get people out there though. I am not looking forward to it but I know eventually I will be sent out there.

 

Not Soju bombs, Soju kettles. Half liter flavored Soju that tastes like juice. Gets you messed up like nothing I've drank before, except imported Chinese venemous cobra moonshine or the moonshine I had in Romania.

You won't go to Casey, probably. Most likely you'll go to Seoul where USFK is headquartered. 99% of anyone in area 1 (north of Seoul) is combat arms and MPs to act as speedbumps for invasion.

 

My best friend and I went army, they took him and declined me, flat feet, back etc. he went straight to Germany. I was pissed so I went navy for boiler tech thinking they’ll take anyone? Nope. Found out about army. Dad was retired mastersgt mom was civil cryptologicks. Got bailed out.
