DIY: Painting Engine Cover

i know its only been a month.. but how has it held up?

 

Simple Green and a pressure washer.

 

Mine has held up great. I pressure wash my engine bay and cover every time I wash my truck and there are no signs of flaking or chipping paint anywhere

 

i painted mine white today but i wanna redo it. what could i use to remove the paint? regular paint stripper or what

 

I saw some plastic stripper at the store the other day. Might be a little iffy. I would sand and repaint if I were you.

 

Painted my cover TWICE. Didn't stick either time. Second time I used the plastic primer stuff listed in the OP. Just going to toss the POS.

 

Yep. Used dish soap and sponge and rinsed.

 

I would try a degreaser or sanding it. If the paint isn't sticking, then it is because you don't have a prime surface.

 

Dish soap will leave residue behind, but I bet the engine cover smells good.

Just before you paint, wipe the entire surface down with denatured alcohol and clean paper towels. That will remove all contaminates from the surface.

 

Looks good OP! Does this paint hold up well to the heat in the engine bay?

My engine cover has been painted for over a year. Not adverse effects from the engine bay heat. I used color matched paint from ebay.

 

Yes it does. The engine cover is insulated so that isn't a problem.

 

did you leave the tape on to clear coat?
wonder if it would make the black shine alil more

 

I left the tape on for the clear coat. It would look good with clear coat over the whole thing i assume.

 

I just bought an 08 and was thinking of cleaning the engine bay, anything special that you use or just a regular wash?

 

Nothing special. Just a good old fashion pressure wash.
