No reference for what you said, but back when the draft was in place, I was #13 and after my birthday, 1973, 13 days later it was ended. I did NOT want to go to Nam and not be given a gun so I could watch US withdraw. I was probably half deaf then from rock and roll tho anyway....

 

My dad was almost in the same boat. He wanted to join when Nam was on, but was too young and joined in '79.

Believe me, very few wanted to join for any reason in 72 or 73. Because that was not a "military" use of military people. No disrespect to anyone, but I would not have signed up or accepted the draft at that time. Time marched on, and I got employed, and life from there.

 

No biggie, it happens when you get older lol.

My dad ended up doing 29.5 years in the army.

I couldn't imagine lol. Basic training in 79, Europe in the 80s, Desert Storm/Shield, Yugoslavia, Iraq.... Lots of craziness.

 

One the bus drivers that I work with at the school he went into the army with flat-footed he was in the Korean war and Vietnam I think he's served like 24 years in the army but he says from marching so much in those boots he has bone spurs in both his heels now

 

My left foot arch has compressed 50% from my time in. I've also lost 1/2" in height.

 

no I feel bad for him cuz he can't walk for more than 15 minutes he has to sit down cuz it's feet are in so much pain

 

But he has some crazy stories about being in the Vietnam I don't think he's right in the head either

 

I can't take a step without moderate pain in my foot and i can't bend over or twist properly. Using the bathroom and tying my shoes is a problem.

he told me a story about when he was on a March and they got ambushed and 3 Viet Cong soldiers come running at them with live grenade in their hands and he says that he use the guy next to him as a blast shield

 

Damn. Not cool. Everyone I served with would have jumped in front of their buddy

 

So what is the actual issue? I can, and would like to help, but need to know details.

 

Well I think it was a different time back thenh says half the guys at where there was scared anyways

 

Conscripts versus volunteers, can't really hold it against them too much

 

He says some of the stuff he did over there wouldn't guarantee him a spot in heaven he told me that they will go through small villages and they were ordered to pretty much kill everybody and destroy everything because they had suspicions that the village will be helping the Viet Cong
