Don't even make anything just start with the basics. Like how to square up a block in the mill. For the lathe turning & facing. Just play with different materials, get familiar with how the machines cut, speeds & feeds. Without learning & getting familiar with that first, he'll just get frustrated trying to make a part if it doesn't turn out well.

That how I started. I didn't know a damn thing when I bought a mini lathe from HF. There's so much info on tbe internet tbat can get him started. He just has to want to learn.

 

that doesnt spike my interest as much.. ive rebuilt one of those for a friend. still a neat car though

fun fact, my old parts manager bought a toyota 2000gt brand new, he still has it.. and its fucking mint... whenever i see him again i'll grab pictures... he knows what he has and has no intentions of selling it

 

thermostat housing.. you need a new gasket for the t-stat.. might as well get a new t-stat. theyre like 20 bucks new from toyota. jiggle valve is the 6 o clock position

 

I saw a 2000GT on the side of the road a couple of months ago. I couldn't believe my eyes, I almost wet my pants. I've never seen one on the road before. Only time I have seen on was at the Petersen Museum.

i've ridden in one. and god damn that little thing makes some awesom sounds just cruising transmission whines and all. he loves that car.
