It’s cheap, and effective. A thief who’s in for a quick score while your alarm is going off more than likely won’t start messing around trying to open or cut the cable.

I have the small Gunvault strapped to the front of the drivers seat. It’s zip tied, but has steel cable anchor for security.

As a cyclist, when I hug the side of the road (while my Tacoma that I paid taxes to use the road sits unused) aholes in cars still try to run me off the road. Try to ride a mile in my shoes.

Ordered a console vault. Used a 10% off coupon. I had this safe In my Frontier, easy 2 bolt install. Room enough for a compact firearm, two magazines and still a little more room.

I bought the Tuffy Behind the Seat Locking Compartment for my 2015 Tacoma. Customer Service assured me that this would fit my truck. It did not come close to fitting. There were gaps of 2-3 inches, plenty to pull the locking compartment off and it "secured" into the plastic of the truck. They did accept the return without a problem, but the experience was disappointing. Describing it as POS is accurate.

I own the under the seat storage unit by ESP and it is excellent. Here is their website: https://www.esptruck.com/toyota-tacoma . Easy installation, very secure, very discrete, and great use of space. I always have a gun stored there and will put my concealed carry in there too if I am somewhere I can't take it with me such as a venue that does not allow concealed carry and has metal detectors. I was told they are designing a locking compartment to rival the one Tuffy has. They said ESP's will be much more secure, have a better fit, and will secure into metal.

I am not familiar with the locking boxes that secure into the consoles, they look great, but I'd rather not sacrifice the console space. Some might say that the gun is closer locked in the console than locked under the rear seat. I agree. If I am in the truck or anywhere I should may my gun, it will be on me, not locked up, and if someone breaks into my truck, they are more likely to look in the console than under the rear seat.

I hope you find something that works for you. Stay safe.

It’s not a box, but a cover. It uses two flimsy brackets to attach it to the back wall of the truck. No matter how tight the bolts are, it is really easy to slide a finger or a pry bar between the cover and the plastic trim.
If someone wanted to get it open it wouldn’t be too hard and they would likely damage the truck in the process.

Tuffy makes some great products but this isn’t one of them.

I was able to return it for a full refund.

I feel ya, and respect your position. It’s kind of an activist thing around here. Many cyclists are belligerent to motorists here and will ride in the center lane on a three lane thoroughfare. Sometimes they’ll ride in groups, taking one lane each and holding up the entire roadway.

It’s hard to see this as anything other than trying to inconvenience people.

They also run red lights and stop signs almost every time.

Drivers that try to run cyclists off the road are shit heads.

    Cool stuff
Lockerdown is clean and can fit a sub compact .... the bag has 5 mags in it for size reference. Usb can also be used 5D61C81D-8E87-4928-B347-95250E74A7F4.jpg

That isn't accurate. A lockable storage can stow your weapon while not in the vehicle. Even IN the vehicle, it does not have to be on your person, only under your control and concealed. Under your seat would suffice as long as you're in the vehicle. If you're out of the vehicle it should be on you, however if you have to leave it secured, a locked vehicle is not sufficient...a trunk is, a storage locker attached to the vehicle is, and a vault secured to the vehicle is. The glove box or center console whether they have a factory lock or not are not considered "securely stowed."

Loaded provisions of the code have exemptions that state "unless authorized by law or statute" and your CCW exempts you from having to unload each time you stow it. The only exception is on school grounds and where it must be secured unloaded.

The OEM Toyota looks pretty spiffy. That'd get my money, if I was in the market.

There are only a few places I frequent that do not allow firearms, and those places have a bank of individually keyed vaults where I can stash my stuff when I go in, and retrieve it when I leave.

If your gun is stolen from you in CA, don't they charge you with a crime because you were supposed to not let the criminal be a criminal and break into your shit and steal it?

Does anyone know if any of the mentioned options will fit a full framed 1911 with a 5 inch slide?

Locker Down is probably the best option out there. Will be buying my 4th here soon. They also offer repeat customer discounts if you shoot them an email.

When I used to cycle a lot, I did too... BUT admit it, on the national level... you are the minority. Plenty ride in the middle, or side by side. Yes they have a right to the road too BUT people would be more considerate if cyclists were also more considerate.

I don’t see how that could be a legal thing by any stretch of the imagination.

Maybe in your state but not in CA.

CCW is only concealed on you, when it’s not on you it’s considered stored and is supposed to be locked-locked & unloaded-unloaded.

That means cable or trigger lock & locked in your trunk or your car safe or the case secured to the vehicle AND mag out and empty chamber.

This is the problem with these kinds of threads, every state’s laws vary widely and also change periodically.
