Well looks like they owe you a spare tire as well, since they did not follow your direction. Stay on them...

Definitely! I left the service employee a well worded voicemail when I returned home. He and I will speak face to face come Monday.

They made you leave work because you had a toolbox? Sounds like your dealer is full of bitches because ive lifted off beds with ladder caps, caps and ladder racks, tundra beds with bigass caps, toolboxes, shit everything except an RTT. I wonder where in the recall it says your bed must be empty for removal.

I didn't question them, I guess in hindsight I should have. To me, the issue was the truck was sitting in their lot for 54 days before they called me. I drive by the dealer twice a day en route to and from work. They could have asked me at any point within that time period to stop by and remove the tool box instead of having me lose 3 hours pay last minute!!

Local Toyota dealer sprayed my ‘05 frame 3 years ago. The spray is gone, rust is back, and it just failed the inspection due to a good sized hole. Dealer says it should qualify for a replacement frame but they will have to check with Toyota. My dealer says it will be 6 months to a year. ☹️

My '09 DCLB is getting a new frame at the end of June. Is there anything I need to keep my eye out for? Is there anything I should consider having done while they have it apart? Thanks.

This is almost whats the scariest. The frame looks great in general. Still has black paint and doesnt have an entire layer of rust on it. But yet, there's a hole that a hammer can go right through. Every time I change my oil, I do a full scan on my truck. Even though it's a 14, I still live in Ohio...

It was given a top coat of black rustoleum back in 2016. All the welds down the entire length have a layer of orange on them. Guess that one just wanted to be the first to go. If we waited another winter, the area by the cat surely would've rotted through. 0206191711.jpg

So I had my 05 Tacoma inspected in NM at the end of January (frame replacement period ended 31 Jan for my truck) and was told it passed and did not qualify for the spray since it's registered in WA (not a cold WX state). Fast forward to May and I take it in for some other work at a dealer in VA to get some other work done and they say it now fails inspection and is outside of the warranty period, so no frame replacement. I'm feeling a little hosed since I feel there's no way a hole could have developed in 4 months, we didn't even get snow where I had the truck in that time period!

I'm trying to find someone to take a look at it to either confirm or deny if the hole could have developed in that time period but no one will even look at the frame. I'm posting to maybe get some advice on what to do or to just see if I'm screwed. I called Toyota and they said since it passed in the time window but failed outside of it they can't do anything, which I get. What I don't get is that the frame rusted out in 4months in a low corrosion area. I feel like the dealer in NM didn't do a good inspection and I got screwed because of it.

I think you got it right, the dealer screwed you in January.
If that's the only problem area, maybe they just missed it.
Have a patch welded and move on.
You already got 15 years out of it.

Local dealer says Toyota Canada said the frame recall for my Tacoma expired and I am out of luck. I told the guy about getting the spray job while it was still covered by the recall and about the assurance they gave me at that time that I would be covered 5 years after the spray job. Turns out they were being dishonest. Feels like I was deceived. They told me to contact Toyota Canada. Squeaky wheel gets the grease and all that. Geeze, now I have to dig up the work receipt for the spray job and go argue my case with Toyota Canada.

Worst case I’ll cut the rust out and weld in new steel myself. Not giving up on my Tacoma, we’ve been best buds for too long.

I brought my 2010 to the dealership and them dingleberries sprayed that Corrosion black spray, it’s like the consistency of road tar all over the bottom of my truck and for a while it was in places it wasn’t supposed to be on my truck.

Yeah, that’s what they did to me and said that I would have a 5 year warranty on the frame after the spray. Well dammit didn’t the spray make the rust accelerate and now, in only a couple years, I have rust holes and they said sorry but the frame recall has expired for my truck. Real nice. I’m screwed.

I got approved for a replacement today on my 2010 but was told that there will not be a loaner car for the two months it is with them since they will not let me take it with me while parts are ordered due to safety concerns . Are they misinformed? The class action website says a loaner for up to 7 days which also seems way too short since they truck will be in their possession for such a long period.

If they're not gonna let you take it home, they've got to provide you with a loaner. I was in a loaner for 2 1/2 months last summer waiting for my parts to come in. They would not let me drive my truck with a frame 'like swiss cheese' (their words), and asked me if I wanted a taco for loaner. It was fun telling all my friends that it was my new truck :)

I had mine sprayed last year and they did a pretty shity job. I asked what they were gonna do and took a look at on a lift when I picked it up. They didn't do where the lift arms where, so they did that while I stood there and watched them but they didn't "knock off the rust". I didn't say anything because I wasn't that big of a deal and I loose my cool pretty easy. When i was changing my alternator and bearing big flakes of rust were coming off of my front cross member, you can tell they didn't knock it off. And week after that I was checking my spare tire to make sure it held air and whatnot but they never lowered the tire to spray that cross member. Idk if I should go back to the dealer that did the work and rip them a new asshole, or if I should go to a different dealer in a nicer town that's the same distances and play stupid and nice and just explain everything that happened calmly.

Can anyone recommend a dealership in the NorCal Bay Area for frame replacement? Inspected frame on my 2007 Tacoma earlier today and found this, good timing too because it was first sold in October 2007! Craziest part is local dealership said this frame passed inspection just a few months ago! The local dealerships I’ve spoken to seem clueless about this recall.

I've had the guys at Capitol Toyota in San Jose inspect mine, since my truck first started it's life out in the NE. They said they've done a couple already, and they let me take a look at a frame they replaced while I was there for an inspection. Sadly, my truck doesn't meet the criteria yet (hole not big enough).

Thanks! Appreciate the feedback. My truck has spent most of its life in NY and PA. Truck has been dealer serviced and every work order from the past few years mentions rust issues. Brought up the frame recall several times and it supposedly passed the “hammer” test. The official warranty inspection was done at Walnut Creek. I can’t believe this was overlooked.
