    Question:
I have the fake hood scoop on my 08.
The sun glares on the raised portion behind the scoop just right to blind me, often enough to be frustrating.
Do any of you have this problem, or have driven non fake hood scoop tacomas and not have this problem. Is there a difference?
I'm seriously thinking if painting the top of the scoop flat black.
Or Trading for the non Scooped Hood...

Yea, happens all the time... I guess I just got used to it. I usually wear sunglasses while I drive so it's not too much of an issue.

Since he has the black sand pearl it does shine the best! Come down to San Diego and trade me hoods and you will not have the glare anymore but do not paint it primer. get some good polarized sunglasses and it will cut the glare.

Will do on the polarized glasses. "easy solution"
My commute takes me east in the morn and west in the eve.
so i get it both ways.

So how about a 14 inch wide flat black racing stripe down the center of the truck?
    A kool idea?

How about one of those black vinyl fabric bras like they used to put on the front of camaros etc. design one to sit over the hood scoop. This could sell well, dont you think...LOL..

    Thanks
    Rich

If anything just put a piece of the vinyl on the hood scoop have sock monkey fab it up and maybe put words on it like TRD or something like that just a thought

I build tactical nylon etc for a living. i could build that/ good idea.

I'll probably cath flack for this: I had the dealer remove all the TRD stickers from my truck when i bought it.
he looked at me like i was nuts. "I just dont like allot of that stuff on my truck."
He told me "folks pay $180.00 to have them put on."
I jokingly asked him to take the (price of the stickers) off the (sticker price)
    No deal.....he said...

Did you pay to have them removed?? Or they just pull them off for you?

Cause giving the dealer more money is the only thing you catch flack for...=)

If you are happy with it...Good to go!!

I have a vinyl plotter. I could cut some semi-permanent flat black vinyl in the shape of the scoop. It would look cleaner then a fabric piece. Let me know if your interested. I don't have flat black vinyl in my inventory right now but I could get it real easy. I can make the measurements from my truck, cut it to shape and mail it to yah. All you have to do is apply it like a any other sticker. I can even put the TRD in the middle or both sides if you want.

Yea, I have the Silver Streak and get it bad as well even with sunglasses. I have no idea why Toyota decided to put a non-functional scoop on a pickup truck. A 30k truck that looks like a 15 yo kid or an illegal alien designed it.

I don't have a hood scoop, the glare I hate is from the lip on the back of the hood right below the windshield. Stupid thing blinds me good when the sun is just right. Glares so bad that it even makes it hard to see out the rear window because it reflects off that as well.

I guess if I quit polishing my truck it wouldn't be so bad :D but it's still a poor design.

Thanks for all the great comments and Ideas.
Might be a great money making aftermarket idea, 2Xextreme.
I wonder if flat black adhesive exists and how easy is it to remove?
I was thinking a temporary paint like bow-flage would be a way to experimint with this phenomanon. will it come off easy if it looks bad or just does not work?

this is just one more reason I got rid of my scoop -
    also -
less vision and most importantly -
it just got in the way when I had to remove snow off the truck

OK any-one want to trade their 08 black (no scoop) for my 08 black (scoop) hood?
But seriously i do like the look but
    drawbacks:
    Visibility
    Glare
    Snow buildup
another flat surface to catch wind...
    Zero performance enhancement....

Yeah, but it looks COOL!!! I just bought a 09 DC LB Sport in Black. I read this post the other day, and asked myself "what is he talking about." And then it happened to me yesterday, BAM. I was driving road w/o shades and got blinded by the glare. So, now I fully understand what you are talking about.

When deciding for a on a new truck, it was really hard for me to decide about the Sport package because of this scoop. But what it boiled down to for me is that I wanted the wheels, seats, tow package, ect. And it looked cool as hell. In the 3 weeks of owning the truck, I've gotten used to it to the point that it's not noticed. Hopefully one day there will be a good mod to make it functional.

Just my .02. Good Luck w/ the trade if that's your decision.
