Never ordered anything from mobtown. Looking at ordering sliders in october with my bonus. Was considering them as they are semi local. But i am not giving $20 much less $1000 to someone that isn't going to reply for two months. So this thread may have cost you guys my business.

For all those saying a secretary is too expensiveor a waste of money... Do the math. Part time secretary $11 per hour * 20 hrs a week * 52 weeks = $11440. Not that much. If you're paying out overtime every single week, doing basic labor instead of managing your business, and losing orders due to customer service.

Mobtown. I feel your pain. Every member of my family has had a private business at some point. My sister's went bust. My dad's sold for a HUGE profit. I gave mine up even though i i was making good money because life and family was more important. But customer service is the difference between a good company and a great one.

I wish you luck in dealing with the growth. I would love to feel comfortable ordering a product from you this fall. No doubt you make a great product.

There’s more cost involved than actual wages.. but hey.

Fuck taxes, workers comp, and everything else that is exorbitantly expensive and turns a $50k position into a $70k expense.

I have owned a small business for 25 years. It doesn't always make sense to hire an admin (depending on what needs to be answered in the emails), but an automated response, giving customers/prospects an idea of when they can expect a formal response goes a long way and doesn't cost anything. Also, budgeting time for communications is just as important or even more important than the welding. Without customers, there is no welding needed. In my business, we spend about 10% of gross on sales and customer service every year and this is a pretty normal number (at least in my line of business). My time bills out at as much as $200/hour, but it is still worth my time to meet with prospects and clients, create proposals and answer questions.

YUP. As a rule of thumb, add 50 to 100% of an employee wage to their pay and that's their actual cost of employment.

That's why you "employ" your family members. Get those kids answering emails off of the books. ;)

I used to debur parts and pick ceramic finish media out of finished parts for my dad's company when I was a kid. I loved doing it and got paid penny's on the dollar for it.

Anacostia / PG Co as well. Leaving JBAB after dark was always a little sketchy.

So glad I picked mechanical engineering over accounting for my second degree.

There’s a lot of overreacting in this thread. Vendors here, LIKE ANY BUSINESS, will miss the mark occasionally or have a product that doesn’t quite live up to snuff. Shit happens. Piling on here like modern SJW twitter dips isn’t the way to go about it because I can guarantee you the vendor will quit this thread immediately.

I don’t have any gear from them but I wouldn’t hesitate to order from them if I needed anything. They’re good people that

    1) live on this forum
    2) put out a good product
    3) helped out those that got burned in the Pelfreybilt fiasco

OP got the rare issue and they came in immediately. Case closed.

Uhhh... you might be on the wrong forum. I love a lively debate (see evidence above), but maybe I'm that idiot you speak of. :D
