Don't like the truck? Sell it, get what you want. See my responses in red above that might help you understand what is going on.

You hated your Tacoma and you sold it. We have been hearing it for months now. Move on dude.
Plenty of Ford forums for you to join.

Thanks for the input...to be fair...I guess I'm not really comparing apples to apples here since I'm comparing it to my F150 5.4L V8 with after market dual exhaust...36s on 20in wheels with adjustable Bilstein struts....it's hard not to compare with what you know though...you know like after you had a bitchy wife for 8 years then you get a sweet positive and upbeat GF that's 15 years younger and different in every way....makes it pretty hard not to draw comparison to the past... oh well maybe that's just my on personal bag to carry around but I'm sure someone here gets it.

I never really considered the Ranger. I did think about getting a full sized f150 since fuel economy wise and in several other ways it compares favorably to the Tacoma. I have a Transit 250 that I have been really happy with. It is the footprint that I didn’t want. If the Ranger had been more compact than the Tacoma, I would have given it very serious consideration. Am I’m unusual not always thinking “more is better”?

The Ranger is smaller than the Tacoma but not as small as a Frontier.

I don't know why people keep labeling this as a "transmission" issue. The transmission shift strategy may compound the problem, which is ultimately related to the low-end torque delivery (or lack thereof) w/ the 3.5l v6.

The 3.5l v6 has roughly the same peak horsepower and torque as the legacy 4.0lv6, but that torque and horsepower is delivered a bit higher in the RPM range. You have to rev this engine in order to get good use out of it.

Manual transmission and lower gearing might help that issue, but at the end of the day this engine performs differently from its predecessor.

OP, I feel you on the Ford issue. I have been driving Toyota trucks, and 4 Runners, since I was 30. 23 year later, I have no regrets, and give it a chance, the Tacoma will be your best investment and tool

Interesting. I drove a Frontier and liked it. Once you look at the TRD type features it seemed to only come with the horrible graphics and roof rack. It also comes with a lower resale value. If not for the graphics, I may have driven one home before getting to the Toyota dealership. The $2k or so less I may have paid would be offset by what the depreciation may be. I didn’t know about the ranger being smaller, that was my next stop. I keep my vehicles for a long time and 15 years or so down the road, I was betting against the turbo. As is said, “time will tell”.

Did you not test drive this before you bought it? Yeah it's going to be different than an F150 5.4. Yeah it's going to ride different, Yeah it's going to shift Different, but if you truly test drove it you should have noticed those things and made that complaint before you bought it. It's a mid size truck with a V6. This isn't a race car, its not a road touring buick either. You bought a Tacoma that was built for off road, you bought a Durable long lasting truck that probably wont throw a rod at 124K or have heat go out at 100K. Its a durable truck that you can run the wheels off of. If this is not your need then consider trading it on on something this is more your speed and need.

I guess all this talk really equates to whatever you drove in the way of pickup trucks before you bought the Tacoma. My personal experience: My last truck was a 1986 (brand new) Ford F-150 single cab long bed with a 186HP (I don't know where they went) 302 this a 5 speed overdrive toploader transmission and she averaged 12MPG. At the end of 10 years, she had 32,000 miles on her and had gone through a clutch and heater core. By the end of the 15th year she had 48,000 miles on the odometer and the transmission gears were whining and she blew a head gasket and I sold it (body and frame wise she was like a vehicle with 48,000 miles on it) for $150.00. Enter my 2018 Tacoma...I absolutely love this truck and I'm not looking back...she sure is geared differently but I'm not complaining as she will normally give me between 22 and 25 MPG. She tows a 16' TA trailer with 2-4 wheelers and I can't ask for more than that. There is no comparison in what I used to drive and what I drive now.

Until they realize that you get instant torque and better mpg for going hybrid or full electric.
