I have an Innovate gauge that uses a 4.2 LSU sensor. What model Innovate are you using?

I don't see why they wouldn't work with Innovate. After all, the gauge doesn't care what sensor it uses as long as there is something to give it exhaust gas readings.

It's an Innovate mtx-l I think. The 3844 model. Came with the 4.2 LSU from Bosch and I'm on my 5th one.....

Welcome to the club. Mine is a MTX-L with the 4.2 also and even upon replacing sensors I would nearly immediately get an E8 code at the gauge. I got tired of screwing with it because support from Innovate is garbage like Bosch sensors, and I determined that the glitch was actually a firmware issue within the gauge which Innovate will never fix, so I put it in a box to collect dust in the garage, bit the bullet and changed out to an AEM X series AFR gauge and it has been the king of my AFR readings since.

I can confirm that the Denso I tried with the Innovate did not work at all. So I bought an AEM x-guage and after the Bosch that came with it started to read erratically I swapped in the Denso that would not work with the Innovate and it worked great with the AEM. For about5 months and now it is dead too. So I have learned that it doesn't matter what sensor it is, I get 4-6 months out of a sensor. But the factory sensors are performing just fine. But replaced them also just to be sure. Didn't change the way the truck drove at all. Still rich, even with the Ucon. But following command AFR as it is supposed to. And leaner than the TRD flash. But still awfully rich according to the AEM guage and color and smell of the exhaust. Need to see if I have a vacuum leak or air entering the system after the MAF somehow. But it shows no signs of it other than being rich. So to answer your question, I don't believe the Denso will work with the Innovate. I would plug in but I could never get the guage to acknowledge that a sensor was present. It wouldn't even allow to do the CAL feature and calibrate.

Same one I have and I also have 6 dead "Innovate" sensors. And now have a gauge collecting dust on the shelf.

I didn't know Innovate was owned by Autometer Products. Wonder if that's recent?

I ran my single Bosch sensor for my AEM gauge to the merge and it's been going fine for around two years. Might be a little cooler there and not cooking the sensor as bad. There is supposedly a small amount of error there but I think it's below 0.1. Prob 0.5 out if that.

I'm looking forward to getting a new sensor or gauge/sensor combo, I want to install them further downstream in my Roostfactor y pipe. I think the combination of being further downstream and in the little heat sink bungs, should help with life span.

I called and spoke to an autometer tech. Without a full acknowledgment of the sensor/gauge issues, he did say the circuitry has been improved on the newer gauges. Distance from the source was important with them wanting at least 24" away. Not sure if cat's play a role in the distance or not. Any way I've been wanting to get the DLG dual 02 sensor gauge from Innovate. It has dual 4.9's. I might just do it.

Yeah, and Autometer is now a "Made in China" brand (they used to be made in America before the great outsourcing epidemic occured) and they use the cheapest of the cheap on their Autometer branded products these days so if that reflects and says anything about the quality of their Innovate brand then I don't know what does. Lol.

Thread revival update: Denso 234-5116 has a longer cord and was about $75 when I got it on Amazon but didn't last me 6 months. Hard pass for me on buying that one again.

I've had excellent reliability as far as my Denso LSU 4.9 goes. Of course I got the one with the shorter cord, listed in the OP.

I went with the denso you are using. Worth a few extra bucks if it lasts longer.

Sorry I'm new here but just had a question. Is there a good dual sensor wide band afr gauge out there? That would be able to run the denso sensor?

@JacksonTacoma @12TRDTacoma How have those latest sensors been working out for you guys? Settle in good?

Also, have you utilized the free air calibration function of the AEM AFR gauge yet? Any sweetness there?

    Thx!

And took me a sec to think through difference in AEM WB vs stock FT WB sensors with that extra .5 in stoch AEM's gauge uses when looking at lambda values.

Latest sensors? I have been using mine since like 2016 and it's still alive and working insanely well! Denso FTW and Bosch can go straight to the garbage!

Updated with more available part numbers, most notably available lengths for NTK sensors.

My advice to those eyeballing these sensors would be to get your hands on the sensor and physically inspect the sensor prior to removal and replacement of your old sensor as apparently there are 3 different notable versions of the plug on these sensors. LSU 4.2 style (which is obviously wrong) LSU 4.9 style, and larger version of the LSU 4.9 style, which is obviously wrong for what would be needed.

I put my hands on a 234-5117 sensor today and almost purchased it until I asked to see the 234-5137 Denso sensor I have run for years and the plug for the 5117 was notably larger but the same style as 5137, so I just picked up another 5137 despite it being more expensive because it was obviously the right style.

Installed a denso 234-5136 today to replace the Bosch sensor for my AEM AFR gauge. I had to remove a plastic leg inside the sensor plug with a pick, but then it plugged right in and worked perfectly. It was pretty similar in length, just a few inches longer and was $78 plus shipping from rockauto. The other one should be here soon for the driver side bank

I can't leave anything well enough alone
I know this thread is for alternatives that use the bosch 4.9 plug. But, I have 3 pairs of Denso sensors that are meant to be the primary, upstream sensors for the truck computer. If anyone is putting on headers, changing around engine or exhaust stuff and wants to go to a fresh sensor for the computer to use for AFR input, these might work for you. I know they fit 2005 trucks but I think the 4.0 engines only changed the length of the harness from the denso sensors, not the connector type. Anyway hit me up if you are interested. I could measure the overall length if you want to compare to some other part number or what is on your truck now.

    Denso 234-9051
    https://www.amazon.com/Denso-234-9051-Fuel-Ratio-Sensor/dp/B0018JUJ9O $125 each right now

I think $100 for the pair would be a decent price, that is way less than 1/2 price. Brand new in box.
