Gotta say it wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. But now I have the ability to remove it when I don’t need it, keep it secure with zero movement when it’s in, and slide it forward or back when I need more space.

As you can see, it sits almost exactly flush with the bed height. So from the side profile you can’t even tell it’s in there. Same from the back. I’m keeping all 3 locks secure with weatherproof locks.

I have a box slightly smaller. I also have a short bed, and so being able to remove it has been a life saver. For those who want the same, i bought a bike lock cable, the coated wire rope kind with loops on each end. The box has a pad lock hole, so when i want security, i put the lock through the box and the loop. The cable stays permanently looped through one of the metal tie downs at the front of the bed. I use a bungee to keep the box firm against the front of the bed as well.

Did you literally screw the tracks into the bed?

I wanna do that but I'm terrified lol.

Yeah, but drilling into the bed was the easiest part. The bed is composite, so cuts like butter. Then I put fender washers with nylon lock nuts on the underside to keep them secure. Hardest part was getting under the bed on the driver side because of the fuel tank. Could have removed the bed, but didn’t wanna go through all that trouble

@NYCTaco52 That turned out awesome! Can you tell me the length of the bolts you used to mount the rails? Also, are the rail bolts that hold the box down the 1" that you was referenced earlier in the thread? I'm going to be doing this exact setup after seeing this thread and want to make sure I order the correct parts.

    Thanks!

https://www.uscargocontrol.com/Airline-Track-Fastener-Pack-1-1-2-Bolt-w-Nut-Washer-10-pk I used these to tie the tracks down, but they sell the EXACT same ones at Lowe’s for a few dollars cheaper. I didn’t even have to use all of them, 6 bolts secured it well.

It was long enough, but just barely. I was able to get a rubber washer and a fender washer on it along with the nylon nut, but it definitely took some turns to get it to catch with enough threads for me to be comfortable with it.

Looks great, does the track fit flush to the ridges in the bed? Can't tell for sure from the picture. Or is slightly proud

A very ingenious and handsome looking fit-out, though. Thanks for the writeup. One concern would be the drilling through the bed thing... don't you care at all about the rust you're going to get lurking under the bed liner (water and salt spray hitting your drilled holes and seeping up ins)? Yikes! Or would you just sell it and be on to a next vehicle before ever caring about the longevity of that?

These beds are made of composite plastic. No metal. So no rust.

In terms of the water, I drilled the holes exactly the same diameter of the bolts and also used rubber washers on one side and fender washers on the other, almost 6 months now and no issues.
