Yes, every county has their own application you need to fill out. But I’ll say this, I’m someone who had a permit in El Dorado County, then moved to Marin county and actually had to turn in my permit after officially moving....... if you live in East Bay, you won’t get a permit. Pretty much all of the bay is closed off unless you can seriously prove you need a permit (carry lots of cash for a business, have a restraining order on someone, etc.) many other counties are lax when it comes to that rule, but each county is different pending the sheriff and how he/she views the permit process.

I live in a state where you can open or conceal carry with no permit required. We have very little problems.
My advice is to move. I don't even worry about locking my car or house.
I do however keep a machete close just in case someone from Cali breaks into my house.
We also have very strong castle laws that basically say you can't shoot someone in the back. Everything else is ok.
You guys have really strange rules out there. Is it worth it?

These crazy rules were sneakily implemented as we normal folk were living life. A lot of us are just like you but caught up in this babylon hellhole.
Me and my gal are moving to Rocklin this year which is a more acceptable environment than where I live. From there our plan is to blow California and move to Nevada.

I am actually getting ready to move but new locations is as good as existing location. Personal responsibility is alive and well in certain places in the US.

California people: please don’t move. Stay in the mess you created. We don’t need your opinions influencing laws in Texas, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, or anywhere else you think will fix your issues.

Sounds like what someone who is against firearms would say or against a police shooting.

Carry some pepper spray and practice using it or carry a knife if you’re comfortable with that. However in this day and age a knife could be more harmful because I think every suspect in CA is carrying a gun. I’m sure you know the saying, don’t bring a knife to a gun fight.

Sounds like it’s maybe the media that’s out of control? I dunno. “All time low in 2017”. Maybe it spiked in 2018?

Considering that paranoid peeps report just about everything these days, this looks like a good trend to me. I’m moving to Cali.

    Lots of suggestions here OP.

Know your state and local regulations, be aware of your surroundings and, perhaps most importantly, get initial (as well as ongoing) training; simply having a tool means nothing if you do not know how to use it well. Bear in mind that proficiency takes time and effort, just like anything else.

My .02 here - stay away from knives. They require you to be within close contact of a threat and would prove ineffective against multiple. If you are looking to defend yourself and your family against imminent bodily harm or death, training with a firearm trumps all martial arts The next rungs down would be BJJ, then western boxing, etc. Again, I'm not an expert, just my view
