I thought you just stab really hard to make sure you get through. Roughly around the spleen should do it.

They had that cool switched valve in Three Kings, always stuck with me for some reason.

Training CAT, didn't know those existed...great idea. Someone gave me a bag full of israeli bandages a few years ago. No idea where they got them, assuming it was because they saw my axe skillz. Maybe my favorite gift ever? :)

For a truck kit, I would include chem lights, VS-17 panel, setup a buzzsaw, flash light, etc. Never know if you'll need to call in a helicopter at night.

I mean I have an IR light.... But it was issued to me lol... I don't see why civilians are going out and buying this junk.... It's just a waste of money as far as I'm concerned.

Get things to control bleeding and to keep the victim warm anything else is just extra.

Because they need hero gear to be heroes

Off duty, I stopped at a minor MVA a few weeks back. There was some tacticool guy wearing a plate carrier with a med kit attached (complete with "MEDIC" patch), trying to put a three-sizes-too-big OPA into an AOX4 ped because "he's breathing heavily and needs to be bagged". Umm, no, dumbass...go home, your COD friends miss you online. We have fun with those types...

Funny story, I was thinking about shooting a PLR into a mep on the DL yesterday, but quickly realized my OTER and Krpstar were in my other truck when I arrived on the scene of the SVA. Shit just went downhill after that and the mep died from hemo-frr (or possibly peno-frr, tough call).

It's really sad. I'm at his house consoling his wife as we speak. I consoled her twice this morning already...

I’m just imagining an incident where someone’s sustained a gunshot to the chest and an open pneumo and some jackass civilian goes and throws a closed chest seal over it and then wonders why a little while later the patients chest is expanded to hell and they can’t breath.

    *Vented

"Seal" is a bit of a misnomer...obviously a vent is needed to let air out, but not in.

Right but they usually come with vents or are a complete seal without the “vent”. In that case it’s a straight up seal unless you manually vent it.

basic $25 walmart first aid kit & added nexcare 3m waterproof bandaids.. I also carry a roll of gorilla tape, and a spare change of clothing I can use in an emergency, and string/paracord to make a tourniquet, or splint with sticks in the woods if I need to. when i go on road (farther out adventures ill get a full kit, but cant see paying $200+ for a med kit.. $100 is my limit..

In a GSW scenario with an open pneumo, a vented seal is the most appropriate intervention. A seal can even be a ziplock bag over the wound with duct tape on 3 sides...something is better than nothing. Needle thoracostomy only adds another opening into the pleural space for air/contaminants, and that's exactly the opposite of what you want. My point is that it's an advanced intervention and most don't have the appropriate training. Also, a penetrating wound to the thorax does not necessarily that a pneumo is present...that's where knowing signs/symptoms and assessment/re-assessment come into play.

We are in complete agreeance and I think you missed my point in my first reply which was a joke that an untrained person could turn an open pneumo into a tension pneumo and have no idea that was happening.

I am retired now but worked for many years as a Level III OFA (occupational first aid) in remote logging camps on British Columbia's west coast. We often used 4x4 pickups with camper shells rigged out as industrial ambulances. So, no need to sell the Taco, just get a slide in stand up FA equipped shell.
