Okay dfire fam. I decided since I took so many pics, I would do a post for each section. I better warn y'all. I have two loves: The beauty of nature and New Mexico history. When the two intertwine it's like a lesbian porn flick and I get excited. I'll try to keep it brief and not bore you too much.

My first day of the trip I decided to stop at my usual favorite stomping grounds. The Lincoln National Forest in and around Cloudcroft, NM. In the Sacramento Mountains. Even though it was 90 degrees during the day, at 9000 feet it gets colder than a well diggers ass at night...

This is at Bluff Springs. My favorite camping spot

This is the namesake waterfall. It looks way cooler in person. Especially in winter when it freezes.

The white in the distance is White Sands National Monument in the Tularosa Basin. More on that next post.

Before there was a road Charles Eddy built a railroad to carry passengers from the hot desert of Alamagordo to the cool pines above. And formed the village of Cloudcroft. Now a very popular ski resort, tourist and art center. This is all that remains of the railroad. The trestle spanning Mexican Canyon.

Day two. I stopped off at White Sands National Monument. The largest deposit of gypsum sand in the world and home to Holloman Air Force Base and White Sands Missile range. The largest military compound in the world and home of Trinity Site. Where the first atomic bomb was tested. I had my pistol and half a bottle of vodka in the truck so I decided to avoid going into that part. The sand is very fine like baby powder and stays pretty cool, even in the hot summers. When my kids were small we'd rent sleds at the visitor center and spend the day sledding the dunes.

City Of Rocks State Park near Silver City, NM. Birthplace of my maternal grandfather in 1899. NM wasn't even a state until 1912 so I guess he was an illegal alien.

Nice! I introduced my wife to camping. First it was tents. That was west coast weather, easy to do in a tent. Then we moved to the east coast. We upgraded to a pop up camper with roof top AC so we could get decent nights of sleep with extreme temps and humidity. A few years after that we up graded to a small travel trailer. Had that for quite a while. We had out grown that family size increased and last year we got a class c RV used of course. We're hoping to see more of the country with far less hassle to do it now.

These are amazing, Dave! Thanks for letting me "travel" with you to places I'll probably never be able to visit.

That's pretty awesome. We skipped the pop up, I was worried about the fabric. We just have a small TT, it's basically a hard tent with AC and a bathroom. The TT has definitely extended my camping seasons.

Nice yeah ours was really a place to sleep and get out of the bad weather. We have a little one and pups too, so the AC is needed at times to beat the heat
