Well. I retract everything I say. I officially have a reason to give up sweets for good (or for the most part).

Went to the dentist today for the first time in like 3 years and apparently I have pretty bad gingivitis. Gonna be $1,000 to clean em and get em under control and the dentist said that cutting sweets will help a lot.

They were like “ do you smoke?”

    No

    “Chew tobacco?”

    No

    “Drink soda?”

Haven’t had a soda in probably a year

    “Acidic drinks?”

    I mean I eat a orange a day ?

    “Sugary stuff?”

    Yes

“Well you have stage 3 gengivitis. This is serious. You have to come in like tomorrow to get this under control. Cut back on the sweets too”

Meanwhile I don’t have insurance and gotta pay outta pocket so fml lol

Just when you think you’re as healthy as can be and you have a fancy toothbrush and brush your teeth twice a day

What a day, I’ll take ~5K Cal burned.
Ended up going back to the gym with my sister this evening, 15 minutes (a little over .75 miles) on the treadmill, 27 second plank, 15 push-ups, and the full 30 minute circuit.

Uhh get a second opinion and quote on that. Thats close to double what I have seen.
Also if you have a dental school near you, check them out. They have great rates and 3rd years need to get experience.

Those do not accurately count cals burned.

I trust this dentist due to past issues and other dental offices not catching a serious issue I had years ago and this being the place that caught it.

And that watch in specific doesn’t count cals or all of them? I’ve googled that before and apparently a Fitbit is pretty accurate

The most accurate way to measure calorie burn is to have a monitor in your arteries/veins monitoring your blood.

No HR monitor, piece of workout equipment, or other external device is accurate.

You burn about 85 calories per mile no matter if you run or walk it. The only exception is when you reach your VO2 max and you cross over into HIIT. Then you burn more calories due to mitochondrial biogenesis from recovery (after burn). LISS does not result in after burn. Which is why that type of cardio is not idea for weight loss on its own... it burns very little calories in the same time compared to HIIT or lifting.

Most devices grossly overestimate cal burn. Like it would probably take 10 hours of continuous activity to burn 5,000 calories.

I just would ignore the calorie number. Its easier to just focus on how your body is responding. If you focus on the calorie burn number and base your diet off that... you may have a hard time losing weight.

    Ah gotcha. Makes sense.

About to do a chest/tri day then go for another jog.

As much as cardio sucks... it’s hella peaceful to just enjoy the relaxation that comes with nature and outdoors

Isn’t it funny though how much of exercise is mental? Like if you run on a treadmill where it shows how far you’ve gone... you’re like “man I’m dead” at 2 miles(random number. Not the point)

But if you run outside and just don’t ever check the distance... you can go forever

    Outside is def more entertaining.
But I’d rather tune into my podcasts on the treadmill than suffer through running in 90 degree heat outside haha

    I prefer spring/fall running.

I always pick long races in the spring so I dont have to train in the summer heat.

Running (or any other workout) n the heat has some amazing benefits though! You can get a far better workout (depending on your goals) running a shorter distance in the heat of they day than on a treadmill.

There's studies (and experience) that show running and working out in the heat produces adaptations similar to altitude training. Just two days ago I run-commuted and on my way home (6mi, which I consider a short/medium run) it was 103 out... It was truly awful but I was completely worked and feel so strong after recovering from that.

When I was training for my marathon my shortest running day was 7 miles. That was early in the morn (5am) so I ran that on the TM. You just find entertaining stuff to tune into. I get into my Dave Ramsey or fitness podcasts and time passes ok.

I’m sure I’ll be drinking something today. I’ve been wanting to try out some new breweries nearby I may give them a shot.

If it makes you feel any better, I left the beach yesterday in a c-spine and ambulance and then left the hospital with 3 staples in my head. I’m gonna have some fun medical bills in about a week...

I’m good. Just took my surfboard to the head and busted it open. I paddled in and walked to the lifeguard on my own. They did all the c spine and stuff because protocol and all that for a head injury

    None... yet
    Question peeps.

In the process of getting ready to move across the country and no access to gym, I do have 30lb dumbbells, 80lb sandbag and a 50lb kettlebell that I used on off days for quick workouts.

Now that I can’t go lift or anything does anyone have any favorite kettlebell/sandbag workouts that may be a little more complete than just the bell swings/front squats/get ups and sandbag clean and press I’m used to?

Oh I’ll be back in the water next week once they’re out. I was due for a more serious injury after going 10 years with nothing more than a few bruises from being hit by my boards haha.

Ya I do have insurance luckily. I’m sure I’ll get the hospital bill next week. Ambulance ride will probably be the most expensive thing. Should have been more insistent on just having my friend take me in. But oh well. Live and learn.
