I hate to drag oil into this thread but.. what's everyone's thoughts on running a little heavier weight oil in the summer time to help combat the heat in TX? Say something like a 10w40? Or is it best to stick to with 5w30

I have run 5-30 every summer here in California with heat temps as high as 110* at some points... However, it would be best to run 10-40 for sake of thicker viscosity protection during extreme outdoor temperatures.

You are good Rob.. this isn't a 3rd gen thread after all.

I’m fine running 5-30 Amsoil. I figure it’s not going to be any thinner at startup when warm than a warmed engine in the winter. I hate swapping oil for seasons, I never have gotten the point. If you want to run 10-40 all year, that’s cool too, after all it’s 90 in November here sometimes.

Am I the only one that feels like if you mention them too many times they show up like Beetlejuice or something like that?

I am pretty sure that this is the first time posting in this thread because I do not have boost yet but it is not for a lack of desire for boost. If TRD had ever offered the TRD supercharger for the 3rd gen I would have had it right after buying my truck new 3 years ago. I am still waiting on either a turbo kit from OV tune or a S/C kit from Magnusun. In the mean time I have read every post on this thread since it was started and every post on the Turbo BS thread and have learned a lot.
Yes, there are some dumpster fires in the 3rd gen section but the mods have eliminated most of the repeat offenders over the last couple of years. Most of us just want to learn more about our trucks and make informed decisions about the mods we buy. I really appreciate the performance threads since everybody seems to want to help others improve their rides. This is the first truck I have ever had and want to specifically thank @Torspd for answering a couple of dumb questions that I asked him in his build thread a couple years ago. My thanks also go to everyone on this thread for their contributions to my knowledge base.

@skyking3 is the rare exception of third gen madness. Sorry to imply differently.

How often do you guys empty out your catch cans? It’s been 3 weeks and I don’t have a single drop of oil.
