rarely if ever do I take my engine to more than 3k rpm unless in 5th gear
will this habit produce unwanted gummy stuff all over the insides
i.e., "Italian tune-up' to burn it all off

    yes, very serious!
i have done this practice since the day i got it, usually am shifting around the 2.7 area in town ... slow and easy lol
most of my miles (2/3) are freeway over 3k rpm so 80 or 85mph?

i am not gonna try to race you because i will lose :D

Most people don’t realize that the 3.4 motor actually loves the higher rpm range when tuned for it,
but the way it’s setup stock it falls short at higher rpms.

Best cleaner there is on the market, only one better is the BG professional fuel injection service they do with their machine.

That’s what I’m talking about!, should be done from the get go to keep it expecting a thrash. Mine gets all bitchy if I don’t smoke some Honda’s, let the cat out the bag and she really goes.

whatever behind-the-dash 'resonating rattle' i have been trying to diagnose where its coming from the past couple months at about 2.1k rpm in 2nd,3rd,4th,5th (then goes away at higher 2.5-3k rpm) seemed to be quite a bit more intense with engine well over 3k rpm
this has usually only occurred after the A/C has been running awhile on the freeway and turned off on the city streets
but i did not have the A/C on yesterday!

I change my fuel filter twice a year and fill at only chevron forever, one that goes through their gas often. I use only premium and when you’re engine stops sounding like a tick, tick, tick sound it’s time for injection services this is verified bye Yota techs that have worked on 1st gens since they came around. I had my injectors done by R/C and two were dripping with no misfire codes, after they were back in it sounded like when I bought the truck, they sound like a sowing machine, kinda weird but I asked about that noise years ago and was told it’s injection, not valves, (from Toyota) the noise went away and came back after cleaning. Did I mention my smog #’s were bad before now I pass easily.

I agree. I can hear the injectors clicking away. Actually, I run Shell 93 premium. No Chevron around here. I have three cars that require premium. The kids are in the habit of using it.

You’re good to go then, no need to worry until it gets quiet, takes around 80k of driving like a blue hair. I shouldn’t talk though I am an old fart anyway, I still stomp it but I stare at the gas gauge now and I cringe, lmfao. These trucks drink gas almost like old school carbed V-8’s anyone else notice this? It’s only when I drive like my age that mileage is great.:notsure:

I need to take it on some trips to TX using my old mileage run down I30. I found a number of cars have a sweet spot at 1,800 RPM. Whatever that speed turns out to be has given some fantastic mileage.

Note that I changed the O2 sensors. While not more than like 1 to 1.5 MPG, I've found keeping squeaky clean O2 sensors along with injectors usually brings optimal mileage.

I like to do that too, I tricked my rear sensor the after cat o2 with URD’s simulator, so I don’t ever have to replace it, being as it’s just there to tell ya catalyst inefficiency. Gives me more money to swap the front once every year, though sometimes I feel changing the pre cat o2 can sometimes rob hp. I have seen some duds over the years and Toyota doesn’t usually refund for a bad o2, poo!, lol. I usually throw in a maf cleaning and pcv valve replacement too. It seems until I regear I’ll be stuck driving slow unless Idgaf and go fast losing good mileage, I’ve been training for years to go slow, kinda hard when you’ve raced most of your life. I was raised like Ricky Bobby..

I plan on adding a new fuel filter to my truck, but want to run some BG44 through. Do you think it would be better to throw the BG in before or after the install of the new filter? Old might slow down the BG from getting to the rest of the fuel systems, whereas the new filter might catch the gunk that could come from the fuel tank? Any recommendations?

I'd be inclined to run it before changing the filter but YMMV. How many miles on the truck/fuel filter? Do you regularly run fuel injector cleaners?

From a different car, but I've found dirty injectors and fuel filters traveling in pairs. One leads to the other.

Toyota deems the fuel filters as lifetime parts and not necessary to change anymore!
i beg to differ as many others might
your dirty injector example is a perfect example that they may be wrong!
