I would undo those bolts and add thread locker. Both my seats failed and stripped the seat back bolts because they came loose over the years and stripped them smooth from vibrations.

$1000 will probably only get you DC TIG. If you want to effectively weld aluminum or magnesium with it, you also should have AC capable machine.
If you did get a DC only, I've read that 100% Argon can be used when DC TIG welding aluminum. Not sure how effective it is though.
For most of us, MIG is plenty. TIG does make some really nice welds though if you spend the time to get good.

The only way my dad would let me weld in the garage was if I could ensure no sparks flying about. Tig was the only way. So much nicer than dragging the old flux setup into the driveway.

Im not messing with the seatbacks. Just the bottoms. 4 easy 12mm bolts.

Do it anyway. Those bolts will come out eventually. Both in the 5-Lug and my PreRunner.

I bought a Hobart DC stick welder and built a scratch tig setup for it. All in for around $700. I like constant voltage, cant get used to using a pedal. And pedals suck to use when your not seated at a table.

This is the cheapest on on CL, looks like it does AC too.

Not in the slightest. You can be "good" at brazing and have it all look like crap. Tig welding not so much.

@Blue92 The bolts on all four bucket seats between my PreRunner and 5-Lug looked like this. That’s what causes the slop in a bucket seatback.

Vibrations over time made the bolt come loose and strip them.

That's neat. I'm all for pretty welds, but for me any weld is better than nothing.

That's cool, I saw a Lincoln multiprocess machine they sell at Home Depot and didn't think those multi-machines are any good.

Maybe something changed in 2001. Always good a idea to put threadlocker on them.

That's a good rule. I made a 30' extension cord out of 00 gauge wire and roll my welder (and plasma cutter) outside unless it's raining and/or <35 degrees or so. IF, I weld in my garage, I set up a spark barrier, and also I don't weld unless I am going to be in the garage for at least a few more hours so any smoldering sparks will show their face. I even have my grinding wheel mounted so I can roll it outside.
