Same, 40k miles, eight visits and no issues.

I re-torque to 85ft/lbs after I get home regardless of what they used. You should always check torque 50-100 miles after tires have been removed anyway so it's no big deal to me.

I also check oil level and look for drips before leaving. It's not that I do t trust them and the service manager knows this, I just said its additional customer QA is all. They're fine with it.

If I can find a place like that I'm going there, all the cars would go there.

I had him replace a Vortec motor in my Suburban. It looked like it just rolled off the production line. He also gives each customer's car a carwash before you pick it up.

I just want to take this opportunity to say FUCK YOU to Stevenson Toyota East 444 S Havana St, Aurora, CO 80012. Worst maintenance department I've ever experienced, and I'll jump on to any opportunity to promote them being massive pieces of shit. Avoid at all costs.

Wait until you find out they are going to charge you $600.00 plus to change your spark plugs in this truck.

It's happened with a few Tacomas here. Wheel fell off as the owner left the service area. Maybe got 100 feet.

The sad part is most people don't know what to look for or inspect.

first hand info here! just took my truck in for its second service and I needed new brakes ( which I knew) the service manager wrote up a quote to replace the pads and turn the rotors, the quote was $395.00.
I went home ordered Toyota pads and new rotors from Amazon and paid less than $200.00 and the whole job took me about 30 min. it was the easiest brake job I have ever done. and honestly I did not need to replace the rotors, I kept the old ones for when I actually need to replace the set that is on there now.

That is actually a Toyota/Lexus characteristic in general. My 16 IS had by far the most dusty brake pads when it was new of any car I ever owned. Literally wash the car and the wheels, drive to the grocery store and back, and run a finger on the wheel and its black. I replaced all of the pads with Akebono low dust ceramic and it took more time to get the wheels off than to swap pads. Pull the pin and the clip, use a clamp to back the pad off a hair, and take the old out and put in the new. Nothing to it and I'm pretty sure that caliper on the Lexus is the same or similar to the Taco because the same part number pad fits the the truck's front. Thats my next mod for the new truck.

My truck is a decade old, well worn in and paid off long ago yet I still don't trust others to work on it. So far the glass shop, body shop and dealership have all done half ass work. It's frustrating having to leave it to the "pros" when it's something I can't DIY.

Just made my appt for 6mo/5k service. After reading what they do (next to nothing) and all your stories, I may reconsider. I can check fluids. My truck is 6 months old but only has 2.5k miles, and only 1k of those on new tires/wheels. The only reason I may still go in is to establish maintenance history. Wonder if I can have them do a walk around and call it good?... Don't touch, please! :)

Just took my Audi Q7 in for its 20k service on Friday. The advisor said "sign here" for a $1200 service. What? Looked up the required maintenance per Audi and said "do only that stuff". $330. !!

This. My rear driver drum was warped early on when they ridiculously tightened the lugs. I still let the dealership do my regular service - oil changes and whatnot because I’m limited on free time and the $70 they charge for a synthetic oil change plus the time I save + used oil I don’t have to mess with disposing... but I inspect to confirm the oil was changed, that a new filter was replaced, and recheck the lugs... while I’m still OCD I will say that I have seen no issues since.

My biggest complaint is when I had my rear diff gasket replaced (for the second time...) I specifically asked them to use a battery tender (which even the field service manual calls for if not working on electrical...). And they disconnected it anyway and I was back to square one on trans learning and had to call and reactivate my XM subscription:

Maybe I can go more than a year next time without my diff leaking... bc clearly they aren’t inclined to replace it

Plus - given the many many problems I had with my truck in the first year, I like to keep service history with the dealer - I have an inkling it will come in handy when a recurring issue happens after warranty is out

My wife had an oil change done at a dealership last year. She came home and parked her truck in the garage afterwards. The next morning we go to the truck to go shopping and notice a puddle of oil on the garage floor. I checked for leaks, but only found oil all over the bottom of the truck. Dipstick showed plenty of oil, so we drove the 5 minutes back to the dealership for them to look at it. The mechanic that looked at it said he couldn't find anything wrong, other then a mess of oil. They went and got the mechanic that worked on her truck and he admitted to spilling oil and not cleaning it up. The service manager had him lift the truck and wash and wipe down the entire bottom, as well as offered for the mechanic at fault to come to our house with some absorbant and clean that up as well. We passed on that. It seems that there are horrible employees at any dealership, even the good ones.

I'm done with taking mine in for dealer service as well. At the 5k service they clearly used an impact gun to do the rotation and distorted all of the lug nuts, as well as put a nice scratch in my fender. After the 10k service I got more scratches and a small ding in my door, and it's at eye level, so not from another vehicle.

This was at the only two dealers in the county.

Not all dealership service departments are like the one you described.
