I don’t think I’d want the truck back after it was lifted like that.

Good luck with diminished value claim ... 99% of those get denied on a spot and one must sell or trade in the car and proof that infact you’ve lost value. On top of that guy is at fault for rear ending so that’s not even a consideration to begin with.

Dude this is god sent now take that cash and upgrade upgrade upgrade !!! Jokes aside it does not look totaled thought if I saw it in person I’d have a better say. Most people don’t understand how it works with insurance but it’s not just the amount of the damage that determines whether or not the car is a total. a lot of it has to do with the salvage value, in other words how much can this truck realistically sell for at a auto auction. I can tell you roughly it would sell for $18-$22,000 easily. So if the repairs are say another 8-10k it’s probably not a total yet.

I’d agree to an extent most shops are horrible. I’ve seen and worked with shops that actually restore cars to the point anyone would have a hard time finding any signs of work ever.

Not really. Sounds about right depending where you are. Let me guess they are quoting you aftermarket or recycled parts as well ?

It's common for the insurance companies to give you an amount to get repairs started, then continue to pay in, as shop digs deeper, and calls adjuster out for more money.
It's not bullshit, it's business, they're not going to overpay, and let you keep the change, they'll continue this down to the last penny, or they thinks it's a total loss.
Good luck, with a good body shop, you'll be up and running soon, or the shop will find something major like frame damage. But, as mentioned the resale is high, and gone are the days when insurance companies would total at the 40-50% range.

Possible, but carriers are also trying to streamline the process during FNOL.
He could have hit a total loss trigger during FNOL that immediately got it moved to salvage. Doing so eliminates storage fees from tow yards and collision centers, and drives down claim costs.
Unless there is something we cannot see from the pictures, the truck doesn’t meet the total loss criteria.
The op started his thread stating the truck has MAJOR front end damage, it does not. He could have also stated that to the carrier and they could have just moved it to salvage first in anticipation that was a total.

    Qualify that statement for me...
You still think it it’s a total, so you are having it moved to a shop, authorizing a tear down to get a sup written that still doesn’t total it...and then will be be mad about it and move it to another shop so they can do the same thing?

If that is the course you think you will get you the outcome you want, it won’t.
You will be on the hook for the tear down charges and tows to and from those shops, and if your carrier is paying for your rental, you will exhaust your coverage and be paying for your own rental.

The experienced body shop guys will see it coming a mile away, they know what loose parts look like from a wreck, and what unbolted parts look like from another shop starting a job/estimate.

Most people don’t understand the process and think insurance is trying to rip them off when in fact it’s usually the shop that does it. If damage can’t be seen it won’t be paid for until it’s discovered and is clearly identified. If anyone ran their business and paid for the worse case scenario upfront without verification that business wouldn’t last very long. Bye Geico insurance is one of the cheapest ones out there. Shops
Hate them they do pay the lowest possible rates in the industry.

Nailed it ! People that do that only dig a deeper hole for themselves. Next thing you know they hire an attorney which will only delay communication and entire process with their lame letters and slow response and yet still not impact the outcome lmao

Make sure those shops use genuine Toyota parts and add to the estimate the damage that Copart added. Which insurance co are you insured with? This whole process is ass backwards.

By law insurance does not have to use oem parts unless he has purchased an endorsement that guarantees that. If insurance is nice they might add the damage from Copart to the same loss. But they don’t have to, technically that’s a secondary claim most likely a comprehensive

I haven’t read every post in this thread so forgive me if I’m missing a data point.

Lots of variables here but it’s not a total. Only thing that MAY make it a TL is a kink or severe enough frame damage that warrants replacement. Depending on location and laws in accordance with said state/province replacing a full frame is a no go while some repair is okay. Any damage that has happened at co-part or wherever should be on the same claim and doesn’t warrant a second or comp claim. If you didn’t have the initial wreck in the first place, it wouldn’t need to be at co-part and and any damage resulting should be covered under the initial claim.

I’ve worked as a body tech, estimator, DRP manager, shop manager for the past 15 years.
