SR/limited hitachis have the softest ride, but will cycle the deepest. But they’re cheap when they blow.
SR Shocks will give you the most comfort, but will have a limited duty cycle.

Sport and Off road are stiffer.

Don't the Sports have the Hitachi as well? Anything and everything I've read say those are the stiffest shocks of the bunch.

Yeah buts it’s a hella tight hitachi. It’s not the same. The SR shares with the limited.

    Sports are SUPER stiff, yeah

There was a a key factor in one of the previous replies talking about wheel base. The long bed double cab will have the best ride because of long wheel base, better on highway as well. 2nd best would be long bed access cab. Personally I would go with the OR, but a case could be made for and SR or SR5 with suspension and tire upgrades.

If it's strictly a work vehicle...just get the SR 4x4 and call it a day.

To jump up to the SR5 is an additional 4k....next level up are the TRD trims, which is 6k on top of the 4.

The OP mentions "really bad" unmaintained roads...not sure if he will ever need a rear locker. You can negotaiate a bare bones TRD off road for 31 to 32k otd.

Additionally if you want a dbl cad with long bed...that config is not available in the SR trim.

The Access Cab only comes with the long bed and shares the same frame as the Double Cab Short Beds

My TRD OR is the most comfortable small mini-truck for cruising potholed logging roads I’ve ever driven, however, if getting a larger truck is not an issue for you, the F150 STX is more comfortable all-round.

The stock TRD OR suspension is plush, but fades quickly on rough roads. I upgraded the stock Bilsteins to the larger diameter, yet still inexpensive, 5100 Bilsteins, which solved the shock fade issue.

My truck is a short wheelbase, and I have a friend with a long wheelbase Taco. The long wheelbase truck does drive better on the highway and seems to be a more comfortable ride Off-road as long as the length isn’t a problem. I need the short wheelbase for the places I like to go.

    That's a good idea if a bed isn't needed.

Stamps and movie action figures count too, as does competitive nerf darts. Anyways....it’s all about choices.
