This is a decent market price. Not great, but entirely expected, especially in your area. Is it a good deal? No, but few people are getting screaming deals on Tacomas. They hold value because market demand is crazy high. Plus if they threw on new tires and brakes, that's something you won't have to do out of the gate. Comparatively speaking, I would personally pay more for a SoCal rust-free truck, with some recent work done on it. If your Uncle is not a putz (which is unclear, as he IS a used car salesman...) and has given it a once-over and it checks out, then that is also worth something. If he is a putz, then never mind...

If you love it, do it. I don't care for the graphics, but that is a personal choice - and I'm an old dude.

    Do it.

Those graphics are bad and I will take them off with a blow dryer if I buy it. But I hear ya on making deals on Toyota! I seriously have walked into a few dealerships before reaching out to my uncle and him getting this Baja truck on his lot, the dealership don’t budge for nada and I’ve tried my best with them and pretty damn good at making deals and getting 2-3k off on my cars on the past but damn tacos have such high value that I can’t seem to get anything but a few hundred off smh. I do need a truck by next Sunday so might pull the trigger on it if it all checks out

I’m headed to the dealer now and I’ll ask them about that smog issue

That doesn't mean much of anything to me... for all I know they "pay" some place $2000 minimum to smog anything, and someone's getting a $1500 kickback.

I'll say this though, you're in SoCal where that truck should be obscenely popular... yet they've had it for almost a month, and with a family member working there, you're questioning whether it's a good deal. I think that should tell you all you need to know.

I can be kind of an a-hole when vehicle shopping, but one line I seem to use at least once or twice every go-round is "I don't care what you have into it, that's your problem, I care what it's worth." They sure don't care what you need to get out of your trade-in (or they're just squeezing the excess into the price if they claim they do), not my problem if they've got more wrapped up in a car than its value.

Exactly.. if they're saying "we have to add 2,400 bucks onto the price" because of work that was done then i need to know where my 2,400 is going

    Just my $0.02...

I'd look further abroad if I were you. In early 2016 I bought a 2012 TRD OR AC for $25K. That included a 100k/10yr Toyota factory extend warranty and a year of service. Mileage on the truck was 4k miles (yes 4k). I was living in Santa Barbara at the time, truck was just south of Seattle. Flight was cheap, dealerships in the NW are far friendlier (super attractive young sales woman picked me up at the airport), was on the road in a few hours. Fun road trip back to boot.

That Baja is a nice truck, but far better deals can be found uf you are patient and creative.

Carfax has some stuff but doesn’t equate to 2200

Sure it does... just "bill" $150 an hour, and use crazy made-up aftermarket "list" prices... or worse... I've had dealer parts guys tell me they sell the parts to service at "list", who then bills used cars at about double THAT, so basically 3-4x what you'd pay over the counter.

    Workin' on it....
‘12 was the first year of the 2nd gen redesign and ‘13 was the only year that had the backup camera in the rear view mirror and still had the dash clock.

Looks like its actually a baja "pro" (extra graphics and TRD exhaust). Just bought one myself back in February with 61k miles for $25k, you wont be able to find anything better for that price. Pull the trigger and take those grpahics off.20190216_155453.jpg

Sounds about like I expected!$2200 for... who knows how much that's really worth, since they put "replace rear brakes" yet there's no parts on that line. My guess is pulled the drums & inspected (which would be required for a legal inspection in MD anyway, dunno about CA) and maybe turned the drums just cuz, which is probably worse than leaving them alone.

I sell dealers parts for used cars every day, and while some will buy OK stuff, most want the cheapest parts they can get... meaning if they did it just cuz the part was questionable, your new crap part might be worse off in fewer miles than the "bad" one they replaced. See: ball joints.

I love the $640 for an oil change, air filter, wipers, and $20 worth of bulbs. They've got maybe $50 is parts & supplies there, and paid some tech an hour, maybe 1.5, at maybe $30 to do all that.

I'll also add that when I bought my Forester a state away, I had to have it inspected in MD. The manager where I bought it mentioned that he wouldn't cover things that failed in MD, and I pressed him on whether he meant it was as-is, or he just wasn't covering things that VA didn't look for, he said of course it's the latter, they do legitimate inspections and everything was passing. Well... it failed inspection by a shop owner I trust, who said the ball joints had several times the allowable play, and the compliance bushings on both lower arms were torn. I wanted to go in well-armed when I had a local Autonation fix that under the warranty, so I found the VA inspection verbage... it was basically the same as MD's rules to the letter. In other words, no, it actually didn't pass the inspection they signed off on.

Yeah a lot of those very questionable for sure and they inflated the price on them. Gonna have to turn this deal down! To hard for me to swallow paying $29153 OTD for a 2013... especially if the blue book is 27760 according to my credit union. My uncle is the used car sales manager and clearly he paid to much for trade in. That’s the price of a used 2016-2017 trd off-road 4x4 double cab with under 80k miles smh
