I know this question has been beaten to death. I did a search to try to find the answer to my question, but I wanted some clarification. I'm looking for a full 3" lift for my truck so I can put on some 33's. Currently I have a 2.25" procomp strut spacer in the front with a 2" AAL in the rear and 1.25" wheel spacers. I have a little bit of a forward rake and I'm rubbing in the front with 31" tires.

I ordered the Bilstein 5100 and initially was going to buy the 2885 springs, but I saw that the 2885 only provides a 1.75"-2" lift on a 2nd gen Tacoma. I saw the 2886 says 2"-2.5" with an extra 110-220lbs and I assumed that without the extra weight this would give me the full 3" that I want, so I bought those instead. But it seems that most threads say not to use the 5100 with the 2886 because supposedly the 5100 can't handle the higher 660lb spring rate. However, from what I read on Bilsteinlifts.com, it says the Eibach/Toytec 1.6"-3" has a 620lb spring rate, and these only provide about 1.6" lift on a 2nd gen Tacoma. Is 40lb's really that big of a difference?

You're fine running the 886 coils on 5100's. Without any weight, the ride will be pretty stiff and bumps will more than likely be harsh. I got 2.5" with my 885's and I added a .25" spacer on both sides to give me a full 3" of lift.

No, it will ride horrible. Get 887s instead for a full 3”.

According to what I see online, the 887 only provide up to a 2.25" lift though.

That’s wrong. Maybe on a third gen.

I just realized you’re an access cab.

I’d go 885s because 884 is 2.25” and 885 2.75”. 887 would put you around 3.25” and you don’t want that. It’s hard on your front suspension.

This is one of the reasons that I made this thread. It seems that the information is so inconsistent. The website says one thing, and people say another. Everything I've seen in other threads says that the 885 is for about a 2" lift. I didn't want to order them and have it end up being only 2", but the other guy above said he got 2.5". I found this thread as well https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ome-2886-with-90021-shocks.537989/ and there is a guy with a 2nd gen using the 886 coils with a stock bumper (but with the nitrocharger 90000) and he said the ride isn't that harsh and it gave him a full 3" without the need of additional spacers. The only thing I was worried about was because I bought the 5100 shocks and everyone says they are designed for the Eibach springs, but as I mentioned in my OP, the Eibach springs are only a 40lb difference. However, I don't want to install them and regret it.

    UPDATE:

I went for it and installed the 5100 with the 2886 today. Honestly, it's not too stiff at all with the stock bumper. If anything I would completely recommend it because it reduces a lot of body roll in corners and gets rid of brake dive significantly. Otherwise it barely feels that much stiffer unless you hit a huge bump or go over speed bumps too fast. Anyone who recommends against using these springs with the stock bumper because they are too stiff probably hasn't tried it themselves and are just regurgitating what everyone else who's never tried it says. So I'm here to confirm that they do work and I'm very pleased with the way they turned out. Gave me the full amount of lift I wanted and I am no longer rubbing in the front.

31" Duractracs (265/75r16). I plan to upgrade my wheels and tires next and get some 33's. I'll probably go with 285/75r17.

And you figure you wont have any issues clearing a 33?

I guess I'll see when I get them on, but 33's on a 3" lift are a really common combo and some people say they needed to do a little trimming or remove the front mud-flaps, but others say they fit without any problem.

The coils will supply all the lift. I had my mechanic put them down to the 0 setting when he put my 886s in. In all honesty I'd recommend buying the nitro charger shocks to pair with the coils. In my access cab, the truck rides pretty stiff, and I read somewhere that its because the shock is too short. I cant confirm this though. Next year I'm hoping to upgrade to nitro chargers. Unless the 5100s break before then.

I did 887s w 5100s but i was thinking about doing the 886s for the same reason. I did the 3rd gen suspension swap and loved how much better the ride was, and the spring rates are similar to those on the 886s rather than our 2nd gens. Glad it all worked out and rides nice, keep us posted on the 33s!
