I am up for a SC even if its more complex and expensive than a turbo. That low end get up and go is what the 3rd gen Tacomas desperately need. I heard that superchargers can slightly improve fuel economy, would that be true for this truck?

Both turbo and sc has the potential to increase mpg...highway. Overall, the turbo should be more efficient.

Also, a turbo is going to be more complex vs a sc.

Turbo also has the potential for better low end vs sc...good example would be fords ecoboost motors.

Seems like everyone has two opinions that are completely opposite each other, some say turbo lags and boost comes on later, some say SC spools up with the cranck so immediate boost. I would think that with a SC the power is always predictable, you push a pedal the engine revs, power is there. I owned an Audi S4 with a twin turbo and that thing took forever to boost. Wheres a shop owner had a SC V8 Audi and the thing would snap your neck off every time he floored it.

SCs only improve MPGs if you drive like you never installed the SC, and conservatively at that.

SC power is instant, but IMO because it's steady and always there there's no thrill of a slightly delayed head-snapping pull like on a twin turbo. SC reminds me more of a hopped up NA motor, whereas turbo usually has a wonderful torque range between 1500-4000 in your typical application.

Hey, by any chance can you turn off the ABS module ?

Just put a 4.5 LT kit on the front and putting a full floater in the rear so I no longer have any ABS cables connected

Most people who suggest turbos are down low point to the Ecoboost, which is a unique engine in that Ford went for power down low with twins instead of max HP numbers. In general a supercharger pulls harder off the line which is why you find them on the fastest accelerating custom dragsters. That being said there is no reason why OVTune couldn't size the turbos to be impressive down low. For an average driver though a constant pull over lag then heavy boost might be more appeasing. That being said some guys can't live without that blowoff hiss :p.

@OVTune would it be a reasonably safe assumption that the stage 1 kit linked on your website will be ideal for those with OEM exhaust setups, nothing aftermarket, and not looking for max power possible? Or will all FI kits essentially require your dump tubes at a minimum? Personally, I've got the OEM "headers" and the TRD exhaust, and it'd just be convenient to run that with FI, even though the setup would obviously be more restrictive.

A centrifugal supercharger doesn't have instant power! Its connected to the crank so power is even with the RPM.

    https://youtu.be/mZ4EiKsoMzg

Refer to that video there, and their running a Rotex SC, and they even show the graphs showing the direct relation of RPM to boost production for a SC. Properly sized turbos for the engine came on and makes more HP for same PSI

All these arguments are completely pointless until you know exactly what turbo and supercharger will be included with each kit. Turbos are more efficient, and much more flexible than superchargers, when properly sized for the engine. Small-ish ball bearing turbo on a 3.5L motor will spool VERY fast, and when properly tuned, spool time will be minimal.

I agree, and I believe he mentioned the turbocharger already didn't he? GT something it's a few pages back I thought? Turbos are more complicated to install but the gain is incredibly worthwhile. That video shows the under the curve which is an amazing feeling!

It's impossible to run turbos or SC with 87 oct correct?

Sadly, I drive 25k miles or more a year so that would be like an extra $1k in gas a year, my thinking is that money + SC/turbo cost could go to a bigger engine/vehicle upgrade instead like a 5.7 tundra or upcoming turbo 2021 tundra.

Some engine yes you can but performance is reduced cause detonation risk. All youd gain is a v8 with same MPG and less acceleration and so on, and bigger off road truck, so not sure your gonna gain much of anything

Not necessarily. If you want more power, you are going to have to run higher octane. It may be possible to do a baseline tune that only uses 87, it won't have a lot of power, but I am sure it could still be an improvement over stock.

I don't want or need a bigger truck so getting a bigger truck with a bigger engine is out of the question. Now, depending on what the Bronco looks like and has for a drive train (Raptor Bronco!!!???), then I will have to put this turbo/SC kit up against that.

Unconfirmed of course, but there's been rumors of a 7-speed manual trans, with the speculation being that the extra gear is a lower gear and something more appropriate for off-road/low range
