Those running 33's whats your mpg?

The load range and width of the tires have alot to do with MPG not just height.

 

I have 305/55/20 Hankook Dynapro on and im gettimg anywhere from 20.3 city up to 24.2 on the hwy. That's in San Antonio traffic lots of inclines and grid locks.

 

4:88's and it has no problem staying in 6th! Best mod ever. Automatic Transmission Tacoma should have come with 4:88 gears IMHO.

 

Are any of you running OVT tunes? At a toss up here. I run OVT 91 Octane tune, DCOR4x4 stock tires. Florida flat land primarily open road with a little city traffic. Consistently 21.3-21.7. I am mindful of driving for MPG but I like pass when needed and occasionally am in a hurry. When trying, I can manage 22+mpg on a tank but it makes me hate the truck. I drove an 18 Wrangler JL on 33's. Avg'd 18 MPG. I need new tires and am either going to go with a 32.5-33" tire with 6100front and 5100 rears or buy that jeep. The Jeep felt more powerful. But it is a jeep, no one drives a Jeep with 200k miles on it. Telli g me I am going to average less MPG with a Taco than Wrangler Brick does mean I will drive a jeep. I drive 35k/yr so yes MPG does matter because it is like having a $150/month bill.

That converts to 21.8 mpg. And you are running right at a 33 with an Orange Virus Tune correct?

 

Guess my morning commute at 80 is what has me at 18.5 aggregate for 20k miles.

 

I envy some of your mileage. I dont get that good with "31s" .

 

I get about 18 mpg with my 33’s.

Luckily I only have to commute about 8 miles for work, so I only fill up about twice a month.

 

You should clarify 285’s and not just 33’s. 285’s suck balls compared to skinny 33’s in almost every single functional aspect, especially wear and tear on your front end and steering components.

285’s = crap mpgs period.

Did about 30,000 last year on 265's and average 16-17. Always wonder how guys are getting even 20. Found that ECT on and locking out 6th keeps the transmission hunting at bay and hasn't affected my mileage at all.

Not entirely true.

It's the weight that does it for wear and tear, and there's 255 33s that weigh more than a 285.

 

My SR with 255/85/16 I'm averaging 19 mpg to 22 mpg with mix driving. I'm doing mostly 60% city 40% highway so not too bad from stock

 

Drive like a granny, and keep it under 65 on the highway. I average 18-19 combined with front/rear bumper, sliders, lift and 285s. I'm auto as well.

 

That is true, but rarely unless it’s a 10-ply.
Also, tread type obviously.

Less surface friction usually means better mpgs. There is a reason all those vehicles in Africa and Australia run skinny offroad tires...those vehicles run for a long time and are off-roading beasts. Function over form.

Wide tires is a fad that is mostly for looks/form.

 

Unless they're on 35s where they're all wide.
