btw...I noted the post date on that NHTSA report...almost 2 years old.

So...I'm guessing the "acceleration issue" is different from the "floor mats issue" ???

Fly-by-wire systems have been used on things like commercial airplanes and jet fighter planes for a long time, so I am confident in the technology.

Idiots abound. Maybe there is a problem with these trucks that isn't idiot-related, I can't say, but I am pretty sure that the throttle-by-wire system on these trucks has been tested so much by the government and by Toyota that potential problems would have surfaced. Until I experience it first hand I'm going with "overblown media news stories" and possibly "mechanically challenged and/or willfully ignorant" people as the real problem here.

You dont if you not want to. Whole thing is stupid and there is no point letting mechanics to screw around with the truck for no reason.;)

Not always man. There are people on these very forums who have claimed experience with unintended acceleration. Good people who know their trucks and know they weren't on the brake or experiencing pedal entrapment. In fact most car companies and models have some experience with unintended acceleration, so it's also true that Toyota isn't alone in this. But it does happen.

Consider the increased computerization of vehicles. Now consider the story of the 2008 Spanair plane crash in Madrid Spain in 2008. Last week investigators announced that a central computer designed to monitor technical problems on the plane was infected with a trojan horse. Malware. And 154 people died. The possibility of viral infection in vehicles is already here.

It's true the media hypes this sort of thing to no end. Fear sells. But there is some truth to it as well. IT guys have seen this coming for years. There definitely are ghosts in our machines.

I'm still not buying it. The very computers you are talking about in a modern vehicle monitor every input like the black box in a plane. There is not one verified incident of an unexplained value stored in the ECM of one of these Toyotas. In order to put a virus in the system one would have to write code using Toyota's proprietary software and secretly install it at the factory so it would be written into all Toyotas. Also, seeing as Toyota stands to lose a lot of money, I am sure they have gone over every line of code with a magnifying glass.

The whole case on toyota vehicles is about to be closed. All the car's computers said the driver slammed on the gas instead of the break pedal. They wont get any more money.

My 05 Tacoma dbl cab has 110000 miles and i had the recall done about a month ago then two weeks ago while at a stop with my wheels cut hard to the right and raining my Tacoma went full throttle i popped it into neutral then slammed it in to park and turned it off. i should have left it in the middle of the road but i restarted it and took it to the dealer and they found nothing of course!!. Not once in two weeks did they call me i had to keep calling them they basically said tough shit. I loved my truck and did not want buy a new one but i lost faith in it and I don't like the other compact trucks out there so i traded it in on a new 2011 Tacoma they gave me a pretty good trade in value but it still feels horrible it was just broken in, they can't even say the words unintended acceleration it will be the last vehicle we buy from Toyota
Providing an American company can make a good midsized truck

How did your wheels cut hard right if you were stopped? Is unintended steering the new thing??

If you had the recall done- there should be no way that the throttle can override the brake.

If this happened in your 05, why would you essentially buy the same truck again? Not getting why your starting multiple threads on this?

LOL. Can you imagine. Sudden acceleration on an F18.

"No! You don't understand! It just went into full afterburner on it's own!"

Honestly, I don't know what to think on the whole thing. Could be all driver error, could be an issue, could be a case of just one faulty system causing a problem and then 399 people who don't know how to drive piling on because they suddenly had an excuse.

That being said, I seriously doubt that any unintended acceleration will happen to my Tacoma without my foot being involved.
