Hey Y'all! New here, but finding this place an amazing resource, I decided to join because I am having a fan issue.

My air condition/heater fan blows fine when it is set to "5" all the way up, however it seems to go in and out between 1-4. Any ideas on why this happens?

It wasn't blowing on 3 the other day, I hit a pot hole, and then it kicked on and is working fine for the time being... is it a loose wire.. a bad fan?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated on my post as well, as it is my first.

    thanks!

Sounds like maybe a loose wire or a bad relay. Try a different relay and/or take a look at all the connections doing the "wiggle test" on the wires. If you still can't find it, you might need to dig a little deeper.

    Thanks Beretta4x4!
I will try the "wiggle" test and respond, and thanks so much for the super quick response!!

Although I wondering.. if it is a bad wire or relay, how come it ALWAYS works on "5"... seems strange, if it was one of those issues wouldn't is not work at all...?

Try checking the wires and relay first, then you'll be looking at maybe a blower motor. Good luck!

OK! Wiggled the wires at the connection under the glove box, and now it seems to be working. I was actually able to make it go on all levels, low to high, after the wiggling. It just kicked on once I gave it a little wiggle. So does that mean new relay or just a loose wire? I am guessing loose wire, but wonder what you guys think.

    thanks

I'd say loose wire. No signs of burning or melted connectors?

I would also suggest inspecting the connectors and wires at the blower area. They probably need replacing with the updated versions linked above.

Check the wiring harness that plugs into the blower. The oem plug commonly burns up and causes the issue you describe.

Had to perform this repair during my recent road trip. Did the temp fix of cleaning the connectors a few months ago. My luck that the resistor takes a crap the minute I hit the Mojave desert on a trip to Tahoe and into Nevada. Dropped by O'Reilleys in Carson City to pickup the parts (harness and resistor). Bought the 5.5 mm socket, but didn't need it since a standard socket was close. Included crip connectors sucked, didn't hold the wires. Thankfully I had some more on hand and did the repair in my campsite at Lake Tahoe. Prolly took 30 minutes. Took off into the Great Basin of Nevada with my fan working fine. If you're having problems now I recommend the quick fix to get you going, but spend the $20-30 on the harness/resistor. Eventually the resistor will burn out and you'll be stuck.
