Let me ask you something man. I feel exactly like you... my girl and my truck are only mine and only ME touches them unless is something that I do not know how to do or like you said, warranty. That being said: if I do not do the maintenance services with the dealer (I do it) do I lose the actual warranty of the truck?

On my fourth oil change with the Baxter adapter. Don't understand why anyone would want to deal with the OEM canister.

Because it is $200 ...and really its not very messy at all when combined with the Toyota/Lexus drain tool. It worked flawlessly for me and while that was draining I used my mityvac oil change extractor to drain the 6 quarts out. Easy Peasy

winning on a Monday, aka quoting yourself!

so the little clip didn't seem to be doing much for unscrewing or screwing it back in... with my replacement, has anyone removed or "actuated" the clip into or out of "operation" and I assume just a flat head is all that would be needed to "open" it from the housing tab clearance (damn I hope this makes sense!)

yes, I believe it is a safety clip... but figured I'd see the best way to engage and disengage it. going forward.

I thought the same thing but what does it even catch on? Is it for the tool?

so perhaps the external tab (like the one that snapped off here)20190624_141608.jpg

only other thought is they could work with the recessed indents/tabs here20190624_141546.jpg

The clip is there to stop the filter housing from backing off. It should be in between the tabs.

If that clip is in place and you try to take that plastic housing off without seeing it, there is a good chance that you will break the housing.

It is supposed to fit in between the vertical plastic pieces (spring clip there) on the housing so that it cannot back off. But, you can remove it completely because one the housing is torqued correctly, it's not going anywhere.

Yes, you can just pull it directly down and it comes out. Needed to remove it for the Baxter. Can't believe it is of any use as other brands such as Jeep have a canister and no clip. one.

So as far as the clip. I used the motiv tool to remove housing and the housing came off no issues. It did have some resisitance for a few turns but not alot. Put housing back on and @ 18ft lbs the clip is no where near the bigger tabs on the housing and I can't see if the clip would really stop the filter from turning of it got loose. Thoughts?
