whining noise could be your powersteering pump.

As for the clicking noise I think its something to do with your ac compressor clutch since it only does it when the ac is engaged.

I was tempted to replace the clutch but all that was needed was the bearing. Mine happened like 9 months ago and decided to cancel the AC Compressor because actually I wanted to replace the whole Thing but needed to save money first. 3 or 4 months ago Decided what the hell its only 25 bucks and replaced the bearing. That thing was destroyed and had only one or two steel balls.

I was told not to do it but did it anyway and has been working so far (knock on wood). If you got the money replace that clutch man.

That brown or reddish dust is from the clutch and pulley rubbing together. Think of it as brake pads.

It does sound like a 1990s Ford F-150 power steering pump that's complaining about not having Type F.. I can name that tune.

Got a temperature gun, definitely blockages in the condenser. New condenser should be here tomorrow.

Also, Found a used compressor from an ‘01 w/50k miles on it for $100. Looked like it was in decent shape. That should be here next week.

Hmmm, I’ll check out the power steering pump and report back.

Not really, had to take apart some stuff behind the glove box to replace my expansion valve but that really wasn’t too bad.

Unfortunately replacing my expansion valve did nothing.

If The AC clutch is worn the slapping you hear might be when the compressor cycles

29 Palms? Take it on out to Bailey's and ask for Fred, that'll straighten it all out.

Sounds like a compressor with an overcharge, I’ve done it before, overcharged, and had to let r134 out of the system. I can’t recall pressure used, but it was low in comparison to other systems. Mine would bind up at a stop and relieving pressure fixed the thing, it was so bad it dropped my idle. Could cause a belt slap from cycling as the op said.

Update: New condenser = AC blows cold even when stopped now.

Replaced the condenser and drier. Broke the heads off nearly every bolt in the process, even with PB blaster.

However, still have the humming at 1500 rpm and the slapping sound when the AC is on. Waiting for a different compressor to come in since the first one I ordered has a seized clutch.

Would’ve been nice for LKQ online to check that before shipping...

I've another option should you continue having problems with it, sounds like you got it though.
edit- what parts did you use? I'm in Los Angeles with the same a/c issues as you

I used this additive in my taco re-fill,, it made my wifes honda air temp about 3 degrees cooler, cuts down on friction=heat, heard some stories of cutting down on compressor noise.

I think we put in about 1 oz on my taco re fill here a few months back, I'll continue to use it when needed for some extra lube.

Guys watch out with LKQ, I have seen some shady parts come from these guys. Some either have a great experience or some get real problem parts. I’m not saying rebuild everything yourself, but sometimes it is the best route.

Yep. The same person can have both experiences. I got a great motor and alternator from them -- from the same car. Then I got a bad compressor from a different car They quickly refunded the compressor purchase. Use care when buying items like compressors. The UAC compressor and kit from Rock Auto worked out great in the end.
