Has anyone given/done the plasma centers? I was curious how it works and how it goes as far as donating/getting paid for it? Any insight would be cool because I have googled it just want some personal experience insight!

    Thanks ;)

ME ME ME. I went here in Iowa to a CSL plasma center. It takes about an hour after you actually get hooked up to the machine. Sometimes the waiting line is 10 mins or 2+ hours around here. I got a reloadable visa debit card from them and then each time I went in they put the money on the card. Here it's $50 each for the first 5 times, then it is about $55 a week.

I've never sold plasma but I've donated it through the Red Cross. It takes about 2 hours. Usually you are laying back in a hospital bed and they let you watch a movie while the machine does it's thing. It's painless but boring.

How many times a week you do it after that? sounds like once. Also once you start giving can you just up and stop going or is it like a contract thing lol

I use to do it in college for about a year. You could go twice a week. Got paid $20 per visit I think. After so many times in a month the price went up. When you first go they will check your blood for the protien content. If it's too high or to low, you can't donate that day.
The needle that is jammed in your arm is huge. So any needle fears will keep you away. Do it enough it will leave you with scars on your arm where the needle goes.
But the overall process is simple. You sit there for at most an hour watching a movie. The machine takes the blood out, filters out the plasma, then puts the rest back in you.
I stopped going because they screwed up twice two weeks in a row. The first week they infiltrated my arm and left me with a huge bruise. The next week they were sloppy again and the needle came out when the blood was going back in and blood got everywhere.
If you do decide to go through with it, be sure to drink lots of water. That makes the process go faster.

FUCK idk how into going I am now after that story Brandon haha. I think I would limit it down to 4 times a month...enough to pay for my gas for the month. The process sounds very simple and I have a big little fear of needles but you gotta do what you gotta do lol

I'm not thrilled with needles, but I had to pay the cell phone bill. But any needle that is big enough to see light through is too big. I never watched them put it in.

You can either give it a try and see how you like it or get an actual job if you don't have one already.

Well I have a job kinda, own a business which is slow. And this semester with school I am unbelievably packed with projects and everything doing this would be great just for a little extra cash and I can do some hw reading while I am there.

If I do not work somewhere and really work hard in school, my professor (s) have great tie in's for job opportunities and internships in what I really want to do. One just retired from being an Engineer for GM proving grounds here in Az and another has huge tie ins for aftermarket performance.

Then give it a try. The worst that happens to you is what happened to me. I didn't die from it. You can also view it as getting paid to save lives.

I donated plasma when I was in college. Wasnt a big deal. Went in, Filled out the paper work, and it took about half an hour. The amount you give is based on your weight. It took me about 1/2 hour. I signed a paper, and walked out with some cash. I cant remember how often they said you could do it, but I waited 1 day afcter the recomended time, and went in. IIRC, that funded much of my drinking while I was in school.....

I did it back in college that was 13-14 yrs ago, pretty simple but big ass needle. I stick people & place arterial lines for a living so it doesn't bother me much, as already said if you get a bad phlebotomist it can hurt like shit and leave your arm looking like a junkie. I stopped when I could afford to, that was my beer/bar money. You will some interesting people @ the plasma center, I can assure you of that.

You can't really know who is good at it until they mess up. Then you learn their schedule. Or you can politely request a specific person.

The cookies and juice were a nice perk.

It's not like you are going to die if the dumbass goes all the way threw the vessel, you will just end up looking like a junkie from the bruising and it does hurt worse if the the phleb sucks cause they dig around. If you have that many concerns don't do it, or decide you really need the money man up and go for it.

I went for 4 times before I had to leave town. But you can go 2 times a week max. And it doesn't matter if you stop and start once in a while or are religiously doing it.
