I have a 97 Tacoma with the 4.3L V6. It will start when engine is cold, once it gets to operating temp is stalls and will not restart. It will crank but will not start. I cleaned the MAF sensor and replaced the fuel filter. Would this be symptoms of a bad coolant temp sensor? Once the engine cools down it will start with no problem but will again stall once it warms up. Any suggestions?

    Thank

Is it throwing any codes.... could be a intake /vacuum leak or further down steam at the cats / oxygen sensors.

I don't see an EGR valve. Also, engine light comes on but no codes when I jumper diagnostic port. Engine light just solid. Would a intake/vacuum leak allow it to run smoothly and just stall when it warms up?

without the proper scan tool your are just going to be throwing money and parts at this. If the CEL is on there are code(s).

When things are cold the tend to compress/ contract and seal, as things heat up they expand causing problems.

Loose Ground connection or another guess one of the relays has a coil on the way to complete failure .

When cold it works as it heats up it opens cools down the circuit is complete again

Also possible just a damaged wire opens when hot .

Fuel pump is tired runs for some and needs to rest

By hot you mean operating temperature ?

How does it stall like a switch was opened or it slowly dies ??

Time for a proper code reader unless you have a OBDI engine

    How many miles ??

Are you apart of the TTC.... down there. Have you hit up the local Texas threads to talk this over and see if they can help out.

    Yes, operating temp....
It stalls like a switch was opened.. It just cuts off
I''ve tried several code readers. MemoScan, Creader Professional CRP123 and Bosch OBD1000. All came up with a link/connectivity problem. None read anything. I tried jumper the diagnostic port on the truck and that did not put out any codes.

Truck has 167k miles on it....

I am not sure... total rookie here.
No connection sounds like there is a pin or two that is bad in the port. Maybe locate another one and solder it in.

Could be an ECU problem, although I can't connect to my port with most scan tools and the truck runs fine.

Since it's at operating temp it makes me think it's a relay or some other electrical part on it's way out (higher temps=more resistance)

Does the OBDII port have a cover on or is that long lost.

I have found they do get dirt and corrosion being exposed to the air.

might not be visible to the naked eye .

Might be the reason nothing connects .

electrical cleaner just watch it does not spray back in your eyes .

Does the light(MIL) come on with the ignition switch ??
