Been reading on this site for last couple days since purchasing 2019 trd off road this weekend. I traded my 2015 Tacoma sr5 2wd back to same dealer I originally purchased from. As I was reading I stumbled upon a price topic comparing what others paid for their new vehicle. I plan on sticking with a new Tacoma every few years since trade in value is great.

Anyway, sticker price for my new truck was $42,785.00. Purchase price was 41k even. My trade in value was 20k on a truck that kbb.com valued at around 17k. Doc fee was the most ridiculous thing I did notice but I didn’t spend much time disputing during the transaction. One thing my local dealer provides is 4 years free oil changes and tire rotation as well as lifetime power train warranty with unlimited mileage as long as I keep it serviced according to their policy.

My question would be is this a decent deal or could/should it be better? I didn’t visit any other dealers because I prefer local buying as always. However another dealer in Tuscaloosa which is a couple hours away had lower sticker prices and all the reading just got me curious if it would be worth sticking with my local dealer long term or next time shopping around.

Any comments are appreciated and I live in Alabama if anyone is needing this information. Thanks for your time!

I wouldn't spend $41.5k (before tax no less) for a new Tacoma. But that's just me.

All the stuff on the right hand side isn't needed and is super marked up. I'd say 38 or 38.5 max, but here may be a different market.

Looks like you’re actually paying $699 for those oil changes and tire rotations.

I paid 36k TTL OTD for an off-road. It was bare bones though.

Well normally you would negotiate and agree on a price for the new truck first then negotiate a price for your trade. On a 43k sticker you can buy that for 38 to 38500 easily.

Ok thanks guys. Be few years before next vehicle but will definitely view other dealers as well next time. Lifetime warranty though for the truck drive train at zero cost to me ever seems a valuable upgrade most dealers don’t offer.

Oh and yes I didn’t notice the fee for stupid cables until I got home. Little use to gripe about it now of course :)

I don’t think that’s a valuable upgrade if you’re just going to be keeping it a few years. Normal warranties are 3yr/36k miles. I’m sure another dealer who doesn’t offer that would be willing to lower their price. If you intend on keeping the truck till it dies then that lifetime warranty would be more than worth it.

Live and learn. Wanna feel better? I got absolutely reamed the first time I stepped foot in a dealership. I got talked into paying sticker, extended warranty, and since I had no established credit at the time, a 15% interest rate.

Thank goodness we didn't have internet boards back then for others to revel in our mistakes. Oh wait... shit.

Can't believe your dealer charged $699 for the maintenance items... I thought all Tacos included 2 years complimentary service? :der:

Aside from that, you got a great value on your trade in, and a mediocre deal on the new truck. Overall you did ok.

All that's over now though. Congratulations on the new truck!

He's actually paying $699 for the interior/exterior paint protection. Doesn't all Toyota come with Toyota Care which covers 2years/25k miles oil changes/tire rotation/roadside assistance?

I would shop around, but that's just me. Did you buy the truck? If so, congrats on the new ride.

Just so you know “lifetime warranty” is defined as 5 years from the date of purchase that’s the law don’t be fooled by words...it’s not your lifetime they are talking about.

The warranty isn’t for 5 years. It’s in writing and called warranty forever by Scott crump Toyota. If engine blows at 450k miles it’s replaced as long as I keep up to date service and service records if I choose to use someone other than the Toyota dealership.

The service for the truck is 4 years free and no limit on mileage also offered through the dealer. The documentation is in the truck with Scott crump Toyota label on everything. I feel fairly confident about it but as someone mentioned before (which I didn’t consider) is that it’s only valuable if I keep the truck in my name as original owner forever. Doubtful since I tend to like the new stuff that comes out :)

I just assumed that Toyoguard was part of ToyotaCare. However, after the 2years/25k Toyota care is over, it offers 2 synthetic oil changes(4 non synthetic) & 4 tire rotations which expires 10 years after purchase of said plan; Also offers, 5year/60k miles of Roadside assistance and car rental assistance, not to mention the exterior paint protection and interior fabric protection. In other words, it's just another bullshit dealer add-on item to pad their bottom line.
