What the shit. I can’t get better than 16mpg with a similar setup but without extra weight of the gear and bumpers.

I understand the point you're trying to make but here's something you may not know. EPA ratings are incredibly averaged to make them harsher, the tests aren't performed under ideal conditions. They're performed under easily repeatable conditions, which are a bit different. So it's certainly possible to achieve better than the EPA ratings regularly. A militant hypermiler like yourself (don't deny it mr. wind direction dependent course decider :p) should be getting pretty solid mileage regularly.

But yeah you're damn straight, the stock speedo shouldn't ever be trusted, especially with other tires (if not corrected), and an uncalibrated (most of them, cause people don't actually take the time to set em up proper) scangauge or ultragauge is about as useless as useless can be.

can see right through it from the outside if the light on other side is just right

i noticed a significant decrease in mileage with brand new on/off road tires compared to the tires my truck was originally equipped with
could be a number of factors though...

That can happen for sure, rotational weight has a greater effect than if the equivalent weight was just set in the bed of the truck. Not to mention the taller tire reducing the lever ratio that drives the truck and the wider contact patch and softer tread compound giving a greater rolling resistance.

Part of the reason you see so much out loud hemming and hawing over tire choices on this forum, light trucks with little extra power to spare notice the changes. Big diesel and even normal V8 gasser full size trucks don't feel these changes so much.

Honestly, I just think it'd be interesting to see what everyones actual MPG is, over the life of the truck, corrected for everything - as opposed to the "tank" or "part of tank" anecdotes we hear on TW.

I guess with newer cars, that might be possible - since they're probably phoning home a lot of that information, and could do the adjustment using a built-in GPS + odometer. Ah, the loss of privacy! hahahahah :)

That would be interesting for sure, I don't know of any cars that use GPS to determine speed for their primary recording but that would sure make things more accurate. I've been tracking it on my vehicles for a bit but I mostly do it on trips since around town it's gonna suck no matter what with how I enjoy driving.

Still can't believe I've put 10k miles on this thing in 2 months...

Also, finally figured out what's causing my high Idle. Truck threw a PO120 code today. So a new TPS is on its way.
