    A local quick stop was held up. I know what I would’ve done had I been the customer.

    Thoughts of/and legal repercussions of your decision?

    Not for sure this is the correct place to be talking about this topic. This is a guns and hinting subforum. Not for sure TW had a Vigilante subforum.

    I’m not talking about vigilante justice. Each state has particulars about their CCW permit holders and what extent they can use it. Mine is a gray area in this particular situation. I would be legally bound to stand by unless threatened with the exposed weapon. Hands folded just as the old man is.

    Not looking to start some exuberantly hot topic. Just hoping people understand what they can and can not do in certain situations.

    hard to say...unless in the situation. But I would hope to do what is "Right". My first thought would be to crack the guy in the head with a beer bottle. But here we are in a open carry state and good ccw laws so...

    Just passed through a BucEee’s last night in TX. A group of 4 painters in bib overalls spattered with paint strolled through. Some with rather large hip holstered revolvers and one with a full size polymer piece in a conceal holster where the bibs button up. First thought was, ‘huh’ then I was like, ‘it’s Texas’. God Bless TX. Even though it is now legal in MS you would likely have to answer questions.

    If the quick stop I pictured had patrons like these painters I’d be willing to wager it wouldn’t have gotten held up for a register till.

    I mean I guess if I were robbing a store I'd at least use a double action revolver.

    He doesn’t appear to be threatened by a man committing an armed robbery a foot away? Ok...

    Also, the law doesn’t require direct threat to you in order to act 8n self defense.

    (f) When committed in the lawful defense of one’s own person or any other human being, where there shall be reasonable ground to apprehend a design to commit a felony or to do some great personal injury, and there shall be imminent danger of such design being accomplished;

    I'll put down the realist situation: the customer in blue didn't see it coming quick enough. Had he been packing, and had he made the decision to draw, he would have gotten his ass blown away by the thugs. They came up from behind and they already had the drop on him before he saw it. At that point it looks like he's doing the correct thing for best odds of survival, which is staying calm and not escalating.

    A younger version of myself used to beat on my chest about how I'd save all the innocents around me and smoke those wastes of oxygen.

    As I've gained wisdom (read: gotten old) I've come to realize that, more often than not, if you shoot another human being your life as you know it is over. Regardless of if you were "in the right" or not. Even if a criminal court finds you innocent of any criminal activity you will likely lose in civil court as it only takes a majority of the jury to agree that you violated their civil rights. Don't forget how much you will be forced to pay for your legal defense in all instances. I've even seen absurd cases where the person that was saved from death then sued the person saved them.

    Now my plan A is always to get me and mine out of the situation first and foremost. If you didn't arm yourself or think to sit near an exit with full view of potential threats then I'm sorry for you but I'm not willing to jeopardize my life or risk everything I've worked hard for for me and my family to save a stranger.

    Even though these stills make it seem like the customer was unable to simply remove himself from the situation, most of these dime store robberies end up in the shit bag taking a fist full of 1's and 5's and running out the door laughing at the "free money" they just got with a toy gun. Personally, my gun is an absolute last resort and as such I would hope that my trials will go smoother if it's easier to prove that it was my absolute last resort. I won't judge anyone who uses their gun to save another innocent but I don't share that same opinion any longer.

    I go out of my way to avoid these situations on the front end (statistics support knowing where crime is most likely to occur and at what times... stay away from those is a great start) which will also lessen the potential for every having to be put in the situation of having to decide.

    This is about right. I am a proud CCW holder and carry more times than not. I would use my weapon only as a last resort to protect life, specifically the life of my family. The only other situations my gun may come out is in the event of some type of "mass shooting" or situation in which a strangers life is in clear and imminent danger (woman being raped, child being kidnapped) or perhaps if a perp had gotten the best of a police officer and was attempting to steal their gun. I look at carrying as a great responsibility and do not take it lightly. Two teens robbing a 7/11 would not qualify as a time for me to take out my weapon, at least not until it became something more.
