Hello all, new to the forum. Sucks my first post has to be a technical one. My apologies.

I recently purchased a 2019 Tacoma SR5 4x4 that has been making a clunk noise from somewhere possibly in the right front area of the vehicle. I immediately noticed the noise as I was driving off the lot with the brand new purchase.

The noise only occurs after the truck has been parked and off. It occurs after start up and just as I began to drive away. After the truck rolls a couple feet, I hear this clunk/clank type nose. Almost sounds similar to running over a man hole cover. After the truck gets going, the trucks drives fine with no noise no matter how I drive, stop or park so long as I don’t shut the car off and let it sit.

I already tried to take it once into the dealer but was met with attitude and horrible customer service so I decided not to leave my truck there for the time being. Hoping someone here has had a similar experience and can shed some light.

    Thanks in advance.

There's really no other answer than to find another dealer.

    Welcome to the forum.

Does it only do it the one time?

Yes, just the one time after each start up. Nothing else after the car gets moving until the next start up and getting the car moving again.

Welcome, see if you can record it than bring it back, I have an annoying noise on starting out in drive for about 2-3 seconds than goes away that sounds like a rattle only when cold. It' was a suggestion from them, I was told but forget to, so they know what to look for when it gets left overnight ? It should be noticeable. But it seems like that across all parts of life nowadays. I haven't had any other issues. So far better than my 2016.

Welcome! I have the same noise but haven't bothered to track it down yet. If I get around to it I'll be sure to let you know.

Passenger side cab mount. Dealer found it and fixed it in 30 minutes.

Something to look into, maybe. The new Tundras do some kind of a cycle/verification with the ABS about 5 seconds after taking off, and it produces a distinct "clunk" sound. They all do it, and it is normal (Tundras anyway).

I wonder if the Tacomas have this now too?

Think I may be having the same issue, just started though at 3000 miles.

Sounds similar to a sound mine makes too. Right when I get near the end of my straight, paved driveway. Every morning when I leave. Have noticed it for about 2 months now. I'm around 30k miles.

It only happens to me when i first start the truck after it has been sitting, put it in drive, & pull forward without my foot on the brake. As long as my foot is on the brake it will not make the noise. Only after releasing. It does this only once on the entire drive even when trying to duplicate it, then only again after sitting. Cab mount makes sense. I’ve also heard it mentioned that it could be the floating brakes & adding an extra anti-rattle clip solves the issue.

My truck does the same thing. 8 month's old 2019 SR 4X2. I took mine to the dealer the 1st month I had it and they had it for 2 hours. They do not know where the noise is coming from. They had a tech on each side with the hood raised and pulled out of the parking space several times. They could hear it but that was about it. They also put it on the lift and checked several things but all was torqued to specs. Service told me they know a new truck is no suppose to make a clunk noise but they could not find the source. Told me it was logged into the system and to go ahead and drive it and if it got worse to bring it back in. Told me it was not a safety issue but I don't know how they can say that when they don't know where the noise is coming from. LOL!

So I decided to drive 116 miles tomorrow to Marion Toyota and have them take a look. If they cannot track it down I'll drive it and forget it. (Fingers crossed they find the issue)

I've got my fingers crossed that they find it. Let me know how it turns out. It's hard to tie my shoes like this.

You're describing the brake pads sliding into place, not a "problem" its just a noise. All generations of Tacoma have had this happen regularly you can search "tacoma clank" its extensively documented, no "solution" same as the "tacoma lurch" or "tacoma thud"... its just a tacoma thing.

My truck does just like the O.P. truck. Just when I pull out of my parking space. I do not keep my foot on the brake while I'm pulling out. When I go in a store and come back out to leave it does it again. It don't do it while I'm tooling around town. Tempted to just cancel my appointment for tomorrow if that is all it is. 116 mile drive one way just to cover my nice clean shiny town truck in bugs for nothing. Guess I'll just live with the clunk.

Sounds like pad shift to me. It's when your brake pads shift after reversing then start going forward again
