Bilstein 6112

Ok, here is a thought. What exactly do you want to do to the rear of the truck suspension wise. Dakars? AAL? Heavy vs medium? Weight in the back? Height? Tire size? The reason why I am asking is due to maybe going with a simple shock in the rear like a OME, bilstein 5100 or even a bilstein b110 if you are going higher and then upgrade when they are in stock. Yes more money but easy to change out.

 

I've got the medium duty Dakars sitting on the floor of my garage now. Only weight over the rear wheels is anything from the sliders and then the bed rack and roof top tent which don't live on the truck. Plus camping equipment, hi-lift, and 7 gallons of extra gas for longer trips.

 

So there is this in the time being, also recognizing that it would be paying for something twice but then you can put them up for sale and get most of your money back after you get the 5160's in. They are made for the dakars and you will most certainly be upgrading to extended brake lines anyway.....just a thought. It would get your lift going for offroad and onroad use right away.....

I was told by three different, reputable, vendors that the shocks themselves (L/R) are the same. That I could order two "right" 5160's and some brake extension lines instead of waiting for a left side shock kit with a brake line bracket.
Pretty sure the vendors I spoke to would not put their reputation at stake for a sale.

 

I just did this ...changed my order to 2 rights. Installed them last night and spaced out the brake line mount with 2 thick washers. So far the truck hasn't blown up

 

With the 5160s (with the spacer that is apparently impossible to ship out), and the Dakars, would I need the extended lines?

 

You wouldn't "need" them but I noticed that my OEM lines even with the spacer were tight at full droop... it is a small price to pay to save your lines and if you need help putting them in I can help you.

 

Ok I think that's what I'm going to do. I'm definitely of the mindset to do it right the first time to save future headaches. Like I said, fluid could use a change anyway. I don't want to install something only to have to reinstall what I really want a few weeks later. Plus who knows when the 6112 is coming back in stock. My springs arrive on 7/02 and I leave for my Yellowstone road trip on 7/03 so suspension will have to wait until I get back, but I would like to do it that week so I can still enjoy the lift this summer. No way do I see the left side 6112 coming back in stock by then. I think tomorrow I will call @Wheeler's Off-Road Inc and see if they'll just send me another right side and extended brake lines.

@crashngiggles, post 86 here is all that's needed for the bleed procedure, right?

@crashngiggles what spring clip are yours set at? @littlefish what do you plan on running yours at? Starting to research suspension.. Damn TW..

 

I have mine at the 4th setting on my 2nd gen for 2.15" with the 600 lb spring with no weight, but I dont know what that equates on a third gen. Once I put the streamline bumper and skid plate trio it went down 3/4". Hence the reason why I am upgrading to 650lb springs because I will also be adding a wench and sliders. I am going to try to stay on the 4th notch and see what happens after the new spring is installed..

 

I've seen/ read some poeple on the 5th/ 6th notch for 2.5" which is ultimately what I am going for, but I am worried with that much pre-load.

 

At that point I would definitely upgrade your uca's. @littlefish , are you upgrading your uca's?

 

I was planning on UCA's either way.. Rather have the adjustment needed. Any recommendation between JBA or SPC?

I think that’s largely before settling and also not typical. On 5/6 were supposed to get 2”.

Not part of the current plan. I’m planning to run the 4/3 setup which is said to give 1” at stock weight wth the 600# springs. Bilstein says the 650# springs add .5” but I’m assuming that’s with no weight. I’m thinking I’ll be right 1”, maybe 1.25” in the front. Fully loaded with weight over the bed I hope to maintain the factory rake with the medium Dakars.

 

Just got off the phone with @Wheeler's Off-Road Inc and have my second right side 6112, plus 4"+ extended brake lines coming my way. Can't see how the two sides are different. The stock shocks are the same. Plus the installation instructions from Bilstein is the same for both part numbers. The installation instructions includes this: "The brake line spacer hardware kit #B4-XB1-Z096A03 is included in the left rear shock #

25-242379. DO NOT install shock #25-242379 or #25-242539 without this kit." The word OR between the two part numbers, to me, confirms that the shocks themselves are interchangeable, and that as long as the brake line spacer is installed, the rest is all good. Worth a try. If it fails I'm out less than $200 on a part that only has a 90 day warranty anyway.

 

No need to overthink it, I'm 99.9% sure you have nothing to worry about. As long as your brake line swap goes well you're golden.

 

I called Bilstein directly to ask if the shocks were different. They stated the shocks are exactly the same and the only difference is the spacer that the left shock comes with. I installed 2 right shocks on my truck and all worked perfectly. I have extended lines so no need to worry about the spacer for me.

 

Hope you are talking about 5160's and not 6112. Pretty sure you are but if not then there is another issue.
