Previous posts about off-highway racing made by me in this thread have been edited. I in no way condone or promote the removal of factory installed emissions equipment on street legal vehicles operated on the highway.

Maybe we need an extra credit to unlock offroad use only parameters...

This... my truck is for snow days and play.

I’ll sign whatever waivers are needed.

This is what I was discussing the other day, guys. HP Tuners has to protect themselves and this is how that plays out.

Question, if you have a 05-08 tacoma with UCON, how do you make it work with HPTuners ? if you pull the UCON you can't load the TRD reflash to those ECU's right ?

From the reports I've seen, the UCON is not happy if you use HPTuners in the background to tune things like throttle mapping (@BassAckwards could tell you more). However,

You can pick up a spare ECU from a wrecking yard, have that flashed to a TRD Calibration ID and keep your stock ECU with a N/A Calibration ID should you ever need to revert back.

Or just have your current ECU flashed to TRD spec if you're not concerned with going back to a N/A setup.

..Or flash your current ECU to TRD spec, and use a window switch to control your ACIS valve and rock the expanded ignition/VVTi tables if you're one who likes to live on the edge.

I was under the impression that you could not load a trd calibration ID to a ECU that was pre 08, and the only way to get the supercharger to work was to run UCON ?

That would be news to me. But I won't claim to be the expert on that subject.

If that's the case however, I'd make an adapter harness and run a 2009 ECU with a TRD/HPTuners modified tune.

    I did not know this.

There are calibrations for 08- starting on page 55:

Yep, i can confirm, you cannot flash the ecu with the UCon still plugged into the stock ecu. Youll need to separate them, plug in the stock ecu, flash it with HP, and then take it out and put it back in with the UCon.

Lol it sucked, but it was worth it to ditch the SAI stuff. Would do it again in a heartbeat if i needed to!

Did you use the throttle mapping?

No sir i did not.. went back to stock because i was having an issue with the SAI max throttle angle being limited.. went back to stock because (to isolate the problem) and i didnt want to separate the UCon from the ecu to flash it and then have to do it again if the throttle mapping didnt work with UCon. Wish i wouldve known better looking back, but itll get done eventually, just trying not to mess with anything right now since the trucks running good for once

Friend of mine has a 07 tacoma mexican spec. When he installed his TRD supercharger the dealer couldnt load the calibration file, something about the ID's not matching up.. he opted out for UCON, but im wondering if it was bc of an ECU from a foreign truck ?

If he still has it, I'd love to know what his Calibration ID is.

They had a different calibration file for my pre 08 model FJ, the calibration files were updated in LATE 08. It would be news to me to say that the TRD calibration couldn't be loaded on an 07 or earlier.

Could it be that he'd have to flash from a early N/A Cal ID, to the current prior to attempting the TRD cal flash since Techstream would be looking for the current N/A cal ID? Hmm.

In the manual I posted above, it shows the calibration ID that Techstream needs to see before it will flash to the TRD cal.
