I see. My state allows UTV’s to be driven on public roads (as long as they’re tagged). But not freeways.

I think it's because they are all 'lifestyle' cars. That is they cater to a specific person who is looking for that category of car.

My 15 year old wanted a wrangler until riding in a rental wrangler. Now she wants taco or land cruiser. Smart kid!

I have a 2018 jeep wrangler jl sport 4 door with rubicon factory take offs wheels, tires, suspension and front bumper, my wife drives it most of the time, it only has about 13k miles, dont regret it at all, drives way better and quicker than the tacoma, that 8 speed transmission works really good, this jeep is really quick when driving on the higway, it will go up to 90mph easy, i will definitely get another one once the 60k powertrain expires. (American cars and newer cars are not reliable any more). The only thing I dont like that much is the wind noise but thats something to get use to, is a fiberglass top, and also is not like we drive with the radio off. (Already had the whole engine replaced due to oil pump failure about a month ago under warranty). I also have a 2019 tacoma trd off road 4x2 with the premium package, it drives ok, transmission sucks, feels too heavy sometimes, wouldn't buy another one for sure, i'm waiting for the new 4runner to come out eventually in the next few years. Despite I had the engine replaced, theres no complains, no steering play at all, drives straight without any issues, instead my new 2019 tacoma has the issue with the rear vibration that has no fix for now, also had a 2018 camry xse with a transmission issue with no fix as well, even toyota is not making cars like they used to. Newer cars are no good after the warranty expires, too many issues and extended warranty's wont covered 100%.

Is it wrong to compare an apple with an orange? Kind of the same thing. If I were a rich man I'd have both, but for different uses.

Had a ‘10 Wrangler JK Sport prior to my Tacoma. Definitely two different vehicles. Like my Tacoma so much more. JK’s have stupid things that break or give you problems. Maybe the new JL’s will have better quality!

Tacoma is much better on the beach in deep loose sand compared to the Wrangler. Wrangler’s short wheel base has a harsh ride overall. Just my 2 cents.

    Planning on 19 TRD Pro
Going to add winch and better tires.
I think many people here look at both the Tacoma and the Wrangler as our public lands have fairly wide "ATV" trails that both fit on easily. I've actually seen old square body chevys turned into moose rigs with giant tires and a foot of lift on the trails. As I won't be lifting it, I looked at the Wrangler Rubicon for years and recently switched to the Tacoma as my next vehicle. The Toyota's seem to be more reliable, I know the TRD-Pro loaded is $10K less than a loaded Rubicon, 2 or 4 door model, so there's money for a winch and good all terrain tires with a bunch left over.

Until mid May I was a die hard Wrangler fan and was planning on ordering a late 19 or early 20 JL Rubicon. After my second issue with shitty service for my baby Jeep (17 Renegade) and having no place to take it as both FCA dealers in my town suck balls, I started looking at alternatives. I compared the 19 Tacoma (TRD-Pro), 19 Colorado ZR-2, new Ranger, the 19 JL Wrangler and the 20 Gladiator. I got the Renegade last November to get out of my Ram 2500 before it needed a bunch of maintenance done.

After looking at the dimensions, cargo capacity, fuel economy (not a deal breaker as I had the 6.7 Cummins before and was getting 12 mpg in it), price and aftermarket gear to go hunting, it came down to the Tacoma and the ZR-2. I can't bring myself to drive anything with that bow tie emblem. The only concern I have is rear end sag on the Taco. With the upgraded suspension on the TRD-Pro model, I hope this isn't an issue. I test drove one last week and really liked everything but the headroom (sunroof).

As I said, I have 2 FCA dealers in my town and they both suck. There's 1 an hour away, but it's owned by the asshats that screwed with me last month. There's one 3 1/2 hours away, owned by the same group that owns my local Toyota dealer and one 7 hours away. Other than that, I have to go to Canada. I'm hoping the local Toyota place will work on the Renegade since they also have a FCA dealers in state.

    welcome to TW!

I'd suggest checking out the manual transmission Tacoma. I've got a '17 pro and it's top notch. The transmission is the same for all 3rd gens.

Also if you haven't bought, the '20s are coming out with a fancier radio that has Apple Car play.....if that matters to you, you might want to wait. Otherwise you could probably talk them down a few buck on an "out of date" '19

As for the Pro suspension, it's got the same leaf springs as all the other trims, only the shocks are different....so it's got a "cloudier" ride. I haven't had any issues with sagging leaf springs, I think those are more or less isolated incidents here on TW than run of the mill. It'll really be dependent on how much weight you've got in the back at all times.

Solution: go get a 2nd Gen Tacoma. Find a good used 2015 TRD OR, it has a different engine and transmission, more power and no jerkiness.

I don't think it's wrong to compare them, you can compare anything you like. Just like when people say it's like comparing apples to oranges, well why the fuck can't fruit be compared, sure they taste different but that's just part of the comparison.

I owned both. Very different vehicles designed to do very different things. I liked and disliked things in both of them but in terms of longevity and build quality Tacoma is a bit better and definitely more reliable. Overland and just an everyday car Tacoma. Toy and rock crawler go with wrangler. D9F426E8-BDA3-473A-A065-18D3FB17EB88.jpg
