I get what you’re saying but my point wasn’t really the resale, it was being happy with his vehicle. If he’s going to trade it in any way, might as well do it while the resale is high is all I’m saying.

The Edge and Explorer ST models are pretty close with 335 and 400 HP. The 2.7 or 3.0 turbo would make for a great motor in the Ranger. Maybe in the future once the new kid on the block sales taper off?

I have some of the same gripes with my Tacoma but that doesn't mean I don't like it. I firmly believe it's the best small truck on the market but that doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement in it. I'm like you and keep my cars for a long time. This is my first Toyota so we'll see how it goes.

my first toyota as well. I really like it too but it has its problems. The best thing about it is the customizing options. Cab interior is so dumb though.
my wifes honda accord is like 2x bigger it feels like. This thing has the cab of an aveo or prius or something.

The current 3rd generation Tacoma has the same cab as the 2nd generation. Toyota didn’t even bother making new rear doors for the DC. The doors are identical and have been around since 2005.5, or around 14 years. The Tacoma is a huge cash cow for the automaker.

Let's see if the sales even take off to begin with. With the Frontier, Colorado and Tacoma already on the market, and Gladiator and Ranger about to hit in force, the market is already very saturated.

The Edge and Explorer are CUV's, not really SUV's. Turbo gasoline and have been slow to make inroads in the traditional BOF, truck and SUV market. Consumers of that market tend to prioritize reliability and ruggedness much more than the Joe Schmoe driving to work...OEM's tend to take their time introducing new technologies and engine types.

That might change over time, but there is a reason why naturally aspirated v6's and v8's are still the norm with BOF trucks and SUV's.

We all recognize room for improvement. But Toyota has, and likely always will be, a conservative company. They're never going to integrate new technologies as quickly as the other OEM's, especially in the truck/SUV lineup.

I see that as a strength and hope they continue the practice. As someone else pointed out, some guys are into all the doodads and latest gimmick or tech and don’t really give a shit about reliability because they trade in every year or two anyway. That’s definitely not me.

I agree, Toyota is a conservative company. Especially when it comes to new technologies.

But an 8-speed or a 10-speed automatic transmission is not new technology. Rear disc brakes are not a new technology. Drivelines that don’t shudder are not new. And neither are frames that don’t rust.

Twenty five years ago I sold Toyotas briefly: at the time Toyota offered what were state-of-the-art 5-speed, smooth shifting transmissions, all their engines were electronically controlled fuel injected, fully reclining seats were standard, etc. As weird as it sounds now, many of these features were not standard in competitors’ models. And Toyota’s fuel efficiency was industry-leading.

Fast forward to today: that same old 5-speed automatic is still being used on 4Runners. Tacoma gets a 6-speed that shifts like shit and we are supposed to the thankful? Tundra’s is not much better. The 3.5 V6 is unimpressive. MPG numbers are so-so at best. Camry finally got a multi-speed automatic transmission...woohoo! Meanwhile, the competition has been narrowing the reliability gap Toyota enjoyed for a long time.

What has happened...? As someone who just rejoined Toyota, it seems to me the company has rested on its laurels for too long.

PS - at least Toyota resale values are still industry leading.

I agree. That's what I did and I'm thrilled with the new one. Life's too short to endure something you don't like.

No shit. My wife is like that. Often times, She’d rather complain endlessly about a problem than actually do something about it. It drives me nuts...

Ha Ha! Denial? I’ve owned Toyota’s the vast majority of my adult life and driven domestic vehicles at work for the same amount of time. I know how much money and aggravation I’ve saved myself. Obviously there is something you must like that is keeping you here or do you just like to bitch endlessly?

Edited to add, on second thought don’t bother to answer that. Life’s to short to bother with whiners like you, ignore it is! :D:rofl::thumbsup:

When the Rivian truck and Suv hits the market I think a lot of guys considering full size non diesel trucks will be reevaluating.

I mean, you're bitching about a guy bitching, so....

And as far as OP's post I had a 2014 Ram 1500 that I traded for the Tacoma. I loved that truck, but thanks to Chryslers shitty quality control it had a laundry list of electrical issues I didn't want deal with. Rams are still the best looking trucks on the road though.
